Anonymous Coward User ID: 68032132 United States 05/09/2021 12:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You're welcome! I'm glad I have some 5 stars left to give. This is AMAZING indeed. It's all about energy. That is why I talk to feral cats: they don't understand the words, but the words change me, and they sense and feel and analyze my energy. One time I was petting a yapper (one of those small aggressive dogs) who was presented to me as a cute small dog. I was talking to this lady while petting. Next thing I know, I hear growling and feel TEETH again my finger. I calmly turned and APOLOGIZED to the dog for laughing with the lady and ignoring him. (Laughing transmits disrespect, the dog didn't know I wasn't laughing at him.) While I apologized, I reached my other hand and started complimenting him about how beautiful he was, how sorry I was for neglecting him and I petted him with my other hand. Teeth were retracted. I slowly removed my finger from his reach. Doesn't compare to video, but as soon as I was up, I freaked out. The dog could have hurt me, badly. But my animal behaviorism intuitively took over. Whew. I learned from myself that day! Moral of the story = stay calm, do not think an animal is beneath your respect: you will lose every time, so apologize and don't cope a superior attitude giving yourself excuses as to why an animal doesn't understand words. They don't, they will feel your energy and animals respond to respect energy. And an apology conjures up a mighty load of respect. Plus respect confuses the animal: wait, why isn't he freaking out? Why is she not scared? No guarantees, but this might save your life in the presence of the wrong animal, some day. Worth a try! And kudos to that man, would love to count him amongst my friends. |

Thanks for the comment! I mostly worry about bears. If I run into one I think I would raise my arms and yell as loudly as possible--scare it away. I did that once with some dudes in the hood (lived in a big city) that were coming out of their car to grab me. I scared the shit out of them! They got right back in their car and took off! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 68032132 United States 05/09/2021 01:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You're welcome. Sorry I made a mistake above. I meant to type: Plus CALM confuses the animal (I typed "respect" instead.) It is the calm that mainly confused that elephant. The respect is what changes their behavior. And obviously his calm (and not yelling) showed respect as well. Wow, you were brave! I'd rather deal with a bear than the dudes in a car, for sure, but I'm not a man. Also a tip: if you try to make friends or gain respect from a wild animal, never smile with teeth: that shows aggression and could backfire. Have you seen that video of the man who lives in Alaska and lets wild bears in his cabin and talks to them and gives them cookies and (gently) whacks them, if they disrespect and reach for the cookie jar themselves? He's amazing too. (I wouldn't whack the feral cats. but I have recently put my hand in between them smack in front of on's muzzle [mouth?] when they were about to fight and gave the "no fighting" command, to quickly separate them as I was about to serve food and they both wanted to be "me first" alpha. They respected that without biting me.) Found him! Kitchen cookies bear circa 4:50: |
