The actual gun design is not the culprit here, although I wouldn't be surprised if some parameters are changed in further production of this model because of this incident. The main culprit I suspect is as a previous poster pointed out: the use of SLAP rounds with a muzzle brake. It is explicitly stated to not use a muzzle device with those in all sources I've been able to find; in fact it even says to not use them in rifles not explicitly designed for their use. The microscopic obstructions which can build up from the plastic sabots are enough to jam a round during firing and create quite obscenely large back pressures even with normal powder loads. If, on top of that, the round itself was indeed hot then you have a recipe for disaster. |

User ID: 79222003 United States 05/04/2021 03:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | so what CAUSED this explosion???? was it a shitty hand load round??? The type of round, SLAP, sabot light armor piercing, has a sabot containing the bullet, when it is fired the sabots grip the barrel instead of the bullet, and as it exits the barrel the sabots fall away. However, SLAP rounds are designed to be fired without muzzel breaks fitted to the weapon, M2 for example, so instead being effectively discharged from the end, the sabot gets trapped inside the muzzle break whereby the vaporised plastic build up inhibits the bore end eventually stopping the bullet causing massive overpressure. It’s a shitty gun design from serbo but ultimately the deciding factor was that this was a LOADED ROUND, likely loaded with TNT. Needed to reach 85k pounds of pressure to sheer that cap (according to manufacturer): Last Edited by ProfessorWhistleTitz on 05/04/2021 03:58 PM |

What happens with old military ammo is that most is loaded with ball powder and if left alone it will function as normal for many many years. BUT if transported and vibrated or shaken over time the powder turns to dust and is no longer in pellet or ball form at that point the powder turns super fast burning and pressure builds faster than the projectile can move out the barrel and boom. That is all. |

Jagged piece of metal sliced right through his jugular. Was not gun's fault, he loaded it with an old round that was loaded "extra hot"... lots of extra powder I guess. Glad he's okay, but that was scary stuff! |

That is all. Could be. The moral of the story is dont use any ammo when you dont have any idea of its origin and history. For all he knows it had C4 in it. if you get a squib round in an AR and you are firing rapidly it will blow up in your face too, but not with this violence obviously. I saw a bolt action blow the bolt back into a guys face on the rifle range once and that was just an obstructed barrel on a .22. |

Those bullets will create a cavity and bounce out of it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78881920 Ireland 05/04/2021 10:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | that is not a shit gun....it was shit ammo...actually it wasn't shit ammo it was just old ammo. When ammo is loaded it is either flake, rod, or ball. In this form the burn rate is determined by the manufacturer so a constant pressure when discharged can be maintained. As the ammo is transported/moved/shook this gunpowder is broken apart into smaller and smaller pieces kind of like going through a tumbler. This affects the burn rate which in turn affects the pressure build up. The faster it burns the more pressure produced. Which is what happened in this case. The guy said he didn't know how old the ammo was. He over pressurized his weapon by using very old ammo and not checking the state of the poweder. |

Quoting: Justme C'est Moi I would also blame the gun design. Relying on 4 threads to hold the breech block in place on a 50 BMG is insane. Seems like a good guy and I am very happy he did not die. Who THE FUCK runs such a HOT LOAD through a PIECE OF SHIT? It's like he was asking for it! sry. idiots like this deserve what they get.. sad we couldnt see more bloodshed on this rtard |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79316086 United States 05/05/2021 02:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I follow scott, have watched him since his channel was new. Have watched several videos of people commenting on this incident. While I, personally, feel the gun design is a bit of an issue, the real problem and source of this is what many have stated. Questionable ammo. Old, surplus, third hand, unknown origin, etc. That's the real issue and not just in this instance. Unless it's factory loaded from a reputable, new manufacturer, it's questionable. I've been given old reloads that have changed hands several times....I've never fired any of them(I unload them, dump the primer and use the case). Scott's not an idiot, but I don't imagine he'll ever shoot anything from now on that isn't from a new/factory supply. That's just good advice for anyone. |

I know in his video he was thanking god, but you can't downplay the fact that his dad was on point, fast on his feet, didn't panic and handled that situation better than probably 99 percent of people would have. I'd say he should buy his dad something awesome for fathers day, but he already got what he wanted(another day with his son). |
