I Agree, I do Not Think a Barrett 50Cal would have Blown up with the Same round in the Chamber. That Said, It was Not the Cheap Rifle, It was the Combination of Cheap Rifle and AMMO Quality and Stability The Round he Fired was OLD and No Longer Reliable. . |

Relying on 4 threads to hold the breech block in place on a 50 BMG is insane. Seems like a good guy and I am very happy he did not die. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 05/04/2021 01:50 PM Justme |

Quoting: Copperhead As a machinist who prototypes and designs I would not trust that rifle at all. No gas vents or other secondary safety features other than those two weak tabs behind the pipe cap. I know right. Two hunkin' 1/2 x 1/2 x 3/4 bolt lugs, for a little peace of mind. [link to riflebarrels.com (secure)] (bolt-lug-strength) Last Edited by uscrusader1 on 05/04/2021 02:15 PM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80314009 United Kingdom 05/04/2021 02:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | so what CAUSED this explosion???? was it a shitty hand load round??? The type of round, SLAP, sabot light armor piercing, has a sabot containing the bullet, when it is fired the sabots grip the barrel instead of the bullet, and as it exits the barrel the sabots fall away. However, SLAP rounds are designed to be fired without muzzel breaks fitted to the weapon, M2 for example, so instead being effectively discharged from the end, the sabot gets trapped inside the muzzle break whereby the vaporised plastic build up inhibits the bore end eventually stopping the bullet causing massive overpressure. |

Crazy how short the engaged thread length is. My CVA muzzleloader breech plug has probably 4-5 times the engaged thread length for nowhere near as much pressure. [link to www.bing.com (secure)] |
