eventually the charging Tech will get better and faster and in more locations it just takes some time.

Quick....Look Surprised!!!

One in five electric vehicle owners in California switched back to gas-powered because of the inconvenience of charging.

It only takes a few minutes to fill up a gas tank, yet some electric vehicles need several hours of charging to drive 35 miles.

It seems to me that with every discharge, a battery has less time holding a charge, once it is recharged.

That's the problem with swapping out your newer battery, that's only been cycled a few times, for someone else's battery that has been cycled hundreds of times.

The other thing I learned with cell batteries is that sometimes you get a lemon, that discharges in an odd way; such as still having a charge on the battery, when the device shuts down for lack of enough charge on the battery, versus a battery that drains down to zero before shutting the device down.

Gas or diesel fueled vehicles typically get worse over time, because they got abused by lack of constant maintenance, but when treated well, can continue to run for hundreds of thousands of miles. Just add more fuel, and keep it topped off with lubricant and coolant.

My husband charges his overnight ... my husband a 'conservative' techie guy loves his electric car, especially loves only having to get gas once ..maybe twice all winter, he hates the cold! He has a volt which is gas and electric.

Don't understand why people want to mock these cars.. the volt in electric mode is like a luxury bmw but gas mode... it's a chevy!

The problem with electric vehicles is the battery. After every cycle, the length of time that it keeps a charge lessens, unless you're willing to continually get replacement batteries.

Years ago, I went all rechargeable batteries, but what I found was that rechargeable batteries went from being minimally charged to nothing. Versus a fuel of gas or diesel, which powers the device till the fuel tank empties.

My dream vehicle would be steam powered, with the option to be powered by gasoline, diesel, crude oil, grease, propane, wood, grass clippings, coal, or hydrogen that was procured by electrolysis.

a "transformer" is simple. It has has two coils(the "primary "and the secondary")close together, the magnetic field developed by current through the primary "induces" a current in the "secondary". it "couples" the two coils.

In the"wireless charging methods proposed: it is like the two transformer coils are split. The primary is on a rubber pad on the garage floor or buried in the street; the"secondary coil" is on the underside of the car. You drive over the charge pointand stop.. The coils couplewirelessly (magnetic field) and the power is transferred.

No fucking "microwaves" involved.

There's a 400,000 mile Volt by the name of Sparkey still on the original battery. Admittedly the Volt engineers were paranoid when they designed the battery controls. It's rigidly held to lab specs for optimum life.

But I think we're at the mark where the practical life of a battery will exceed that of an engine.

I’ve had a bolt for two years now. I charge at home for free, takes about two hours to make up the distance I drive daily. If I’m going on a long trip (more than 250 miles one way) I usually stop at Chevy dealers and charge for free, or use a pay charger somewhere. Can go from 20 miles to 180 in about 30 minutes.

If someone can’t remember to plug in a and charge I have to imagine they can’t remember to change their oil, check their tires, or change their break pads.

Wife has a Model 3, we charge it in the garage. No hassle at all. We also live in Ohio, so nothing is a long or far trip; that would make a difference. We kept her LR3 just in case though.

I have the Cyber Truck pre - ordered; will likely still keep a gas vehicle, either the LR3 or my current X5.

Its only getting easier to charge them on the go.

They already are mainstream. But they aren't for everyone. You have to see if the vehicle you're buying suits your needs.

I have a 65 mile round trip commute mon-fri. I charge at home and at work so it suits me fine.

If I were hauling hay bales in a far flung mid western town, well then I'm probably going to be rolling around in a diesel 3500 something or another.
