I send best wishes to everywhere celebrating in Kentucky and elsewhere, looks fun

London broil will be grilled up here in southern Oregon, it was on sale at Safeway for $2.99 a pound yesterday - also making potato salad, tomato & fresh mozz, and a strawberry cheesecake (for my illegal gathering, don't rat me out to Commie Kate)

got some mango rum punch to wash it down & plenty of cold beer too

The Belmont was the race, too..... there is a meme of it here.

hard to describe the emotion that brings to watch

Standardbreds are fine horses too, for harness racing. Not as hot as thoroughbreds. Fun to take care of, fun to drive in a jog cart on a practice track.

I met the great Albatross in his stall at Brandywine Raceway back in the day. He traveled with a goat, not another horse. Usually 2 horses to a groom. The goat was his buddy.

mile in 1:55. Pacing.

wonder if that record still stands

hoping not.

in the 1990s there was a deaf contestant for Miss America, Heather Whitestone.

a really cynical person said:

of course she will win. They won't give up the chance to have a deaf Miss America.

He was right.

it is unfair to all to do things that way. Her win was cheapened by being rigged? maybe. we will never know.

Or if he looses, they pay him anyway for "Reparations"

Yeah but they started breeding these poor horses to be big and strong on champagne glass legs. Then they started dying or breaking their legs and having to be euthanized...all because of a race.

I used to be into this until the horse I bet on died a horrible death on track. Too many horse deaths nowadays. Not interested.

Another Derby Tardition is "Hot Browns".

..."The hot brown is an open-faced turkey sandwich smothered
in Mornay sauce (delicious) topped with tomatoes, bacon,
cheese and pretty much anything else you want on it.

Then you toast it until the sauce starts to turn—you guessed
it—brown."...

That AOC pic (which I'm not even going to "quote" again) is a true insult to all the beautiful horses.

I haven't paid much attention to this race since the beginning of the year, back when the pathetic press was drooling all over another Baffoon Baffert trainee. SO FUCKING SICK OF THE BAFFOON SHOW.

I'll pick any horse that's not trained by that rat, or owned by China Horse Club.
