Lived the 70's, 80's & 90's When I was Young & Now I'll Have Almost 50 Years of Normal. Same - I am a little older than HD Harry, but pretty much the same experiences. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72530568 Although I could see in the 80's and 90's that society was falling apart fast and already I stopped following the "norm". But sure as anything I'd take the 80's or 90's over the shit show we have going on today. It really is incredible how many people have lost their minds - or never had one to begin with. The brainwashing is so complete and pervasive I think GLP people are perhaps 3% of the population. When I was 11 years old my Dad bought a boat and anchored it in Lake Erie. That summer my brother and I lived on the boat the whole summer, 90% of the time by ourselves. No cell phones, no nothing. It was great. There was a CB radio on the boat and an AM/FM radio. My Dad said that the only thing we had to do was keep the boat clean, wash the outside every day and polish the chrome once a week. Other than that it was fishing and swimming and snorkeling every day. What a summer. I used to camp in the Adirondacks each summer. It was a church camp but it was still tons of fun. I remember going under water and finding clams. I learned how to sail and canoe. I have a new neighbor now that likes to kayak. We get along great. But he only feels comfortable kayaking with his girlfriend and sometimes her dad. He never leaves his apartment unless with her. It was the same story with all the other guys that lived here. I got along with all of them but they were tethered to their girlfriends. People are afraid to socialize. It drives me crazy. Yeah - here in Canuckistan the media has people so freaked out about CV19 that shaking hands, hugging and talking to someone less than 6' away has become taboo. They have made everyone afraid of everyone else. Great way to start a civil war. Vaxed vs Unvaxed Black vs White Left vs Right. They are dividing the peoples like never before. Yeah - I miss the old days. Cheers Harry. Best times I ever had were in Quebec on tour with my cheesy cover band in the early 90's. Nobody had a phone, just drinking and socializing and traveling around with my crazy band mates. Going to the beach, the mall, the arcade... It would make me sad to go back now. |

Quoting: The_Meridian I'm 49, so the decades match, but I would say I didn't really "Live" the 70's, you know... I absorbed it but didn't live it. Also, the 80's, by the time I got a car, it was over. 1988 forward sucked as rap and crack replaced rock and weed/Acid. Douchebags with beepers and Z Cavaricci... The 90's with lumberjack girls out of their minds of superweed too strong for normal people, depressing whiney Grunge...(good movies though)... The 00's with 911 and realizing how fake and fucked everything is... The 10's with Obama/Trump cartoon politics Yuck. To really have lived the last "Best Days" I think you need to be born...oh... 1958-1960 Old enough to remember the Beatles and the Breakup Old enough to be able to Catch Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath live Old enough to have experienced Disco, Quaaludes, LSD (The real kind) And Old enough to have gotten every scrap of enjoyment out of the 80's and technology before we became it's bitch. Old enough to have figured some shit out by the 90's and have a job and start a family and avoid the dreary single life of a 20 something trying to navigate those bullshitty waters. I am also 49 So, the 70s was great for me as a child The 80s were awesome for me as a teen I got my first car in 87 when I was 15 wasn't able to drive legally alone until 88 But those 2 years were great Then the early 90s which were just like the 80s were also great I think the 90s were OK up until around 98 90s were fine as far as people and the way the world was It was changing but not that quick If you base the 80s purely on when you started driving and partying then yeah it was short But I was partying when I was 13 so my 80s were fun earlier |

I even see older people acting like the younger ones now. Watching nonstop TV while also using their smart devices. My parents never turn their living room television off. Would have enjoyed it much more I suspect. From the 60s until today, have watched America fall apart piece by piece until now it is a communist freak show that our founders wouldn't even recognize. Eddie Van Halen was an immigrant who was half Indonesian and DLR's parents were college professors at IU. Did that mean they had an agenda? Yeah, it was doing blow and girls. Which fine with me, I'm not going to pretend to care. Rush's lyrics are all about Ayn Rand, which I thought everyone knew at this point. At $10 per hour on first temp job in 1981, big money for temp work at the time, my entire monthly tech bill (phone, tv and no internet) was $18 for a landline. Don't know how people shop brick and mortar for shoes and clothing while making just a bit more than that, much less pay for internet and cable, which I thankfully gave up on over a decade ago. Discernment of the reliability of Independent journalism on the net is FAR preferable to paying a cable company to program me. There weren't 22-year-old mask nazi power-trippers in every store who don't have the time to learn the truth. Who cares at that age, anyway? It's ruining businesses all over, small and large. Snuck out with my 15 year old friend one night and we drove to Balboa Point (the young person hangout near Newport Beach, CA) and we drove around with just me having my learner's permit! At age 16 we started driving down to Tijuana on the weekends to party at the gigantic nightclubs. The age to get in was supposed to be 18 but they always let us in. They had sand volleyball courts on the roof and we'd be drinking and paying volleyball at night, lit up by the lights of Tiajuana. As you can tell, I didn't have much adult supervision as a kid, LOL...but I always had money because by my teens I was waiting tables.
