And of course the Godfather series.

Re: Best epic movies I probably haven't seen?
I'm looking for a good epic movie or trilogy to veg out on.

Something relatively newer, but I can make exceptions if it's older as long as it has high quality production value, good audio and sound track, and decent special effects for its time.

Any suggestions?

I've watched all of the Alien, LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek movies.. The old epics from the 80's/90's/2000's like Last of the Mohicans, The Patriot, etc. too..

I'm looking for something similar, though. Hell, even a good courtroom drama I haven't seen would be cool.

What else is there to watch?

Honestly... A lot of these streaming service tv shows are a million times better than movies these days - at least past 20 years. And I'm sure it helps that they can just pay good actors relatively unknown so and so a certain fair amount and spend the most money on production quality instead of just flopping out a piece of dogshit that totally blows that a high school kid could make that has so and so money who - e garbage that takes 25million just to flash a face and name.

A lot of these foreign shows are really good - but the ones that don't overdub in english are beyond stupid if they're trying to market in america. Nobody wants to actively and intensely fast read some subtitles when they are trying to actually watch a visual fancy play.

You can't even see their acting or faces or backgrounds items or clues of visual presentation and you sure as hell can't miss even 5 seconds of it going to the kitchen or bathroom or smoke or talk to a friend or make out or go get the front door or whatever and hear it and know what's goin on if even in the background and not miss vital things or feel like you are.
That's the main reason I hate anime not dubbed in english too. It's all about the story artwork and visuals THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN ENJOY OR APPRECIATE OR EVEN NOTICE BECAUSE YOU ARE FRANTICALLY READING AND FOCUSING ALL ATENTION ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN.

Re: Best epic movies I probably haven't seen?
it's funny Matrix movies 2 & 3 get panned when they really are just as good if not better than the first

i have a vague conjecture that it's because in 2 & 3 it's a community together resisting instead of a superhero

also it's odd the Wachowski brothers went transgender and then made a total flop bomb of a movie ... forget the name, some girl discovers she's royalty in a galactic empire, had a huge budget but was total garbage

Re: Best epic movies I probably haven't seen?
A Man Called Horse - Richard Harris - intense

Savage Innocents - 1960 Action film with Anthony Quinn. Peter O’Toole debut

Fantastic Planet - French Czech animated film where enslaved humans (Oms) are playthings of blue giants (Draags)

Runaway Train - fast paced - Jon Voight

La Femme Nikita - original French action thriller film with Anne Parrilaud

Lawrence of Arabia

Shoeshine - 1946 Italian film By Vittorio De Sicca

1900’s / by Bertolucci . Donald Sutherland has some disturbing scenes .

The Damned- by Visconti

These are but a few. A number of others already recommended like the Guy Ritchie Films, The Godfather films. Hope you watch some classics . Newer films have nothing on masterpieces from past .

Enjoy!!

From 1985, one of Kurosawa's best films - A bleak view of the world and an allegory on how evil people seek wealth, prestige and power and spread suffering and death to all around them.

The original Planet of the Apes movies are great

Also Gettsysburg is a faithful 4 hour epic about the 3-day battle.

City of God (2002) is incredible if you don’t mind subtitles. It is Brazilian.
