VA and vaccines. Question for the vets
A friend of mine, who is anti-vax told me this morning her friend's husband was required to take it. She said he was forced to as he goes to the VA regularly and he would lose his benefits if he didn't take it.

I am calling BS because I have a friend that works at the VA and they aren't required to take it. I think she told her that to shut her up about warning against taking it.

Anyone else hear of this? Again, I don't think this is true but wondered what those of you who deal with the VA have heard.

Re: VA and vaccines. Question for the vets
The only thing we've been told is the VA is now giving the shot to vets and spouses that want it.

That was what my friend that works there said. As far as she knew they weren't going to make employees take it. I would imagine if patients had to, employees would also.

I would think that too.

They wouldn't make vets take it if active duty isn't required to take it, I think.

It might be different for the vets that are in the VA nursing homes, but I don't know.

Just like the flu vaccine before covid, they offer it to you but there is no requirement to take it.
I have had the covid vaccine offered to me 3 times in as many months each time I visit the VA. And no I haven't taken it. In fact I ask each time if it will keep me from getting and transmitting the virus and each time the answer is no.

At my last office visit I was offered shingles, and tetanus....Not covid. A few days later I got a recorded message that they had an open clinic the following day if anyone wanted it. But its definitely not being pushed.

As a veteran I can tell you that is false, all treatments at the VA are recomendations. They do not have the power to take away your benefits, only congress can, and only for just cause.

Re: VA and vaccines. Question for the vets
Some VA systems, Miami, for example, are pushing these shots as hard as they can, to the point of demeaning their patients.

They (Miami) had a townhall phone call over a month ago which I was invited to listen in, and they couldn’t have been more condescending to those that didn’t want the shot and hadn’t changed their mind after the one minute attempt of brainwashing.

Certain people in the VA: doctors and admin and anyone (social worker+) in mental health could potentially ruin a veterans life without much effort at all.

Also realise, these doctors keep notes in their system and if you collect VA disability, those notes, which you typically have no access to, are reviewed by those dealing with your level of disability. Your doctors, etc can put whatever nonsense in the notes that they want.

ETA:
Can they make the shot mandatory? No. But depending upon how far in the system you are, they can potentially make your life difficult if they disagree with your choice.

Why can't the VA ever seem to find the "notes" on my vet? LOL! It feels like groundhog day at nearly every visit.

They are (in general) mostly self-serving morons. The notes go in, they enter a black hole, and the only way out is records release of everything, and good luck with sifting through that mountain.

Re: VA and vaccines. Question for the vets
It is bull shit as active duty marines are allowed to refuse it. As many as 40% active duty marines have refused the vaccine. Normally they would not be allowed to refuse a vaccination but the current emergency experimental designation assigned to the vaccines by the CDC provides an opportunity to say no. As far as losing benefits, this would be not true as well. The VA can make it mandatory if you wish to receive treatment from the VA however you are not required to receive treatment from the VA and can choose a medical provider you wish.

They can’t force it. I haven’t been to the VA for a while but I’ve received calls and letters just asking if I want a appointment for it

Re: VA and vaccines. Question for the vets
I had a relative vet get in a caravan 2 months ago to go get the vaxx at the VA. They all waited in line to get the first jab. Then they all scheduled the 2nd one at the same time and did another caravan down to the VA hospital.

The only time I wear a mask now is around them,

Re: VA and vaccines. Question for the vets
It's bullshit. They have put out statements that it is not required and will not affect your care. At this point.

This just proves how much junk rumors are out there. Also my VA has given out many shots. My one doctor has told me about the VA reported side effects.

Not any real bad ones except the possible anaphylactic reactions. They have staff with Epipens and life saving equipment right in the room you wait afterwards.

this is your right to get it or not. I do however see individual corporations making it mandatory for there service, especially sport events, concerts, flights, and other things.
