An excellent historian told Me earlier this year that I am "at least the equal or better of Plato".

So that was (perhaps) the best compliment I ever got.

Assuming it is true, "You are a terrific parent" is the best complement you can give a parent IMO.

Their most important job on earth: raise thoughtful, happy, kind, and emotionally/mentally strong human beings.

I do not think anyone can raise anyone to be "happy"; happy is an emotion that overcomes a person and they have no control over it; like sadness.

Though you can make an overt effort to contribute towards their happiness.

I prefer it when people shut up and mind their own business, instead of informing me of their opinions on mine, and that's regardless of if their opinion is approving or not!

In fact, people who compliment are even more annoying than people who criticize. Both of them are annoying because they take it upon themselves to judge others, but those who show approval also have the gall to expect thanks and smiles in return, as if their approval was a precious gift.
