Rather than going around the long way, I rode my bike thru Wilmington DE (yep, Biden country although not yet) sometime in my early teens and encountered 4 black boys who took my bike. They surrounded me and got me off of it. I managed to talk them into giving it back somehow. But that was maybe my first encounter with black people in Wilmington. I tried to make sure it was also my last.
