Buy what you want; it’s still somewhat of a free market.

Consider that the M1 rocks. It’s not rehashed, its new technology that will change computing. They just crushed the other chip makers. My Macs last years longer than my PC’s. They are usually more expensive than pc’s because they are engineered as a complete product, not a bunch of parts put together.

What I don’t like about Apple is their absolute arrogance and attitude of superiority that they know best how to use a computer than their customers do. For example they have no Blu-ray or DVD players in their computers. Who cares that the brilliant Jobs wanted the Mac to rely on networks for everything? Consumers have vast amounts of data on CDs and DVDs.

So what to do? Buy an old Mac and run linux on it.

It will be released to the "Right to Fix" crowd. There is a push to prevent people from fixing their own stuff. Apple is a sham in this area and will lose 100's of millions in repair fees.

Even if they do release it to people that fix devices, it would not matter.

Apple would go after them for buying it, but moreover you cannot simply repair apple products.

They are made to fail if certain components like the security chip is tripped.

In short, ONLY apple can repair them.

Your macs last year's longer than your PCs because just like every other Mac fanboy, you buy a $3000 mac and a $700 PC and then write it up as a fair comparison. BTW, Until just recently, Macs ARE PCs. They dropped PowerPC architecture in the early 2000s. There is very little difference between a Mac and a PC with an Intel mainboard.

I have a $3600 Dell workstation that I use every day. Its 11 years old. Over the years I've upgraded the video card, RAM, and changed to SSDs. I also daily drive a 12 year old Acer laptop. You get what you pay for. Nothing shocking about a $400 Compaq or emachine that dies in 2 years.

No, you buy a Blu-ray player then put all your stuff on a flash drive before your discs fail which should be very soon.

Go read my post again I’m not an apple fanboy. I’ve never bought a $3,000 Mac, you however bought a $3,600 pc and then had to spend more money to upgrade it. Apple is making their own chips now and migrating away from intel, the new Mac’s aren’t pc’s. The Mac OS is based on linux and is way better than windows. Pc’s are better at games.

I use different computers for different tasks, you can use your 12 year old Acer for everything.

I agree. However, I don’t see that continuing as an option. With the new Macs pretty much the whole computer is on one chip. If other PC makers go down that path it will become impossible for the average guy to build their own. We’ll see what the market and big tech have planned for us.

No it isn't. I've been in high tech for 25 years. Apple reinvented itself in the early 2000s with iPod and then iPhone and iPaad. Since competition shower up in all of these areas however, Apple has fallen short and been nothing more than a follower with a cult followed OS. They're constantly behind the competition.

They even abandoned their own PC hardware only to use x86 / x64 Intel chips.

And for the record, "pieced together" systems can create masterfully crafted purpose built systems using components from manufacturers who focus on very specific products like video cards, sound cards, etc. Apple is not the master in ANY area let alone ALL areas.

Mac is a cult followed weak over priced PC. Nothing more.
