The Sound Of DOOM

Hello disaster, my old friend. I've come to spread you round again.
Because a vision softly creeping left its seeds while I was sleeping
and the vision that was planted in my brain still remains within the sound of DOOM.

In restless dreams I walked alone, narrow streets strewn bout with bones
‘corpses hanging from street lamps, those still alive shipped off to camps
when my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a nuclear light
that split the night and brought the sound of DOOM.

And in the radioactive glow I saw six billion people, maybe more.
People screaming deaths agonies, people dying without knowing.
People writhing, shrieks that voices never shared, no one dared disturb the sound of DOOM.

"Fools," said I, "you do not know, DOOM like a cancer forever grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you, take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell and echoed in the wells of DOOM.

And the people bowed and prayed to the nuclear god they made
and the sign flashed out its DOOM in the death that it was forming.
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are ignored in the whitehouse halls
and tenements fall and dissolve in the sound of DOOM."
