Derek Chauvin Trial - VERDICT IS IN - Guilty On All Three Counts

maybe I missed it -- but -- was it ever discussed during the trial about Chauvin and Floyd working together at the night club ?

Supposedly they had some problems and didn't get along

hard to believe an issue wasn't made of it (or I didn't see it)

The Jury deliberated 1 hour past the 7:00pm time the Judge had set for them. Lots of crazy speculation on Twitter this morning about that as you can imagine.

Well, they didn't come back on the first day. Good sign they are taking this seriously and not bowing to the mob.

Nothing was said during the trail or during motions without the Jury present about that.

If Chauvin(ism) is found innocent I will literally wire $3.50 to any and all GLP members who provide Cashapp/Paypal info with 24 hours of the news, with the hope that you will then go get a beer and celebrate the good news.

Court TV is rehashing some the testimony from previous days this morning. They do have a Live countdown/up clock running.

Great job during the entire trial.

Fingers crossed the jury makes a decision based on evidence and not outside influences. Unfortunately, they are human and that is asking a lot.

Somebody square this circle for me .... testimony was GF's arterial blood gas was 98% oxygen explicitly stated in testimony to refute notion of carbon monoxide poisoning testimony of the defense ME witness (South African).

But the pulmonologist said the prone position plus restraint of Officer Chauvin and others on top of GF reduced oxygen in take by 40+% .

In my mind these facts don't square unless GF was resuscitated alive in ambulance responding to life saving CPR and medical treatment.

well, that seems pretty puzzling to me that a man can be charged with murdering a man he knew and once worked with --

and that relationship (however tenuous is may have been) is never explored during the trial

especially when they supposedly "clashed" at work

That's a good point. I was wondering the same thing. I'm pretty sure it never came up in the trial.

My take on that is they administered oxygen and artificial respiration during CPR, which moved the blood around through the lungs and replenished it with oxygen.

With the body not really doing anything it wouldn't take much to oxygenate the blood... but they couldn't get his heart to restart.

There was already too much damage to the brain by the time they got oxygen levels up.

I don't think so, I mean I would hope any jury would deliberate for at least a day when it comes to the possibility of sending a guy to prison for 20 years.

Especially in a case like this where it's not clear cut and there is conflicting expert testimony to hash out.

The prosecutions final statements were quite mawkish. The defenses were boring to begin with, but raised good points and got me rethinking a manslaughter charge on him. I was open to the possibility, but he appears to be right that the paramedics made a decision not to administer first aid at the scene due to the hostility of the crowd (so why should the officer)? However, they weren't great, he missed an opportunity to point out to the jury that he was on his arm not his back with his second knee. I mean he showed how the prosecution used selective frames to make a point, when that is what they done with the second knee on the back. They could have scored big there and instead he goes with some trivial shit to show the doctors bias, such as the knuckles on the tire and for how long Chauvin lifted his foot! If you really wanted to show how biased the prosecutions witnesses were, reinforce it for the jury that Floyd said he couldn't breathe 7 times before being pinned on the ground and allegedly positionally asphyxiated with a second knee that wasn't compressing his lungs. This point was kind of made for him by showing the resistance Floyd was giving where he spoke those words.

He did a good job of showing the context of the situation from the polices point of view. If I were in his shoes, and I had the guts to be a public speaker (I was selectively mute as a child and that kind of carries with me today), I think I would have done better than he did in some areas and worse in others. I would expect more from a lawyer making the kinds of money he would have been, but then the prosecution was also weak and had a team of lawyers...
