More talk of farting in public being banned
Once again this week in the media there is speculation about people being banned from farting in public. This is something that needs doing, I am tired of travelling on public transport and having to face the smell from the filthy people who keep farting.

Re: More talk of farting in public being banned
I agree with it being banned. I got on a coach last week and there was a man sat in front of me who proceeded to fart every 2 minutes and produced a wall of smell that begarred belief. The driver did nothing about this. The farter simply laughed out loud every time he farted and each fart made a loud disgusting noise, as though there was liquid coming out.

Re: More talk of farting in public being banned
Setting aside the question of legislative authority, is it even possible in a physiological sense?

Can you ban sneezing?
Can you ban coughing?
Can you ban burping?

These are involuntary reflexes -- to a degree, anyway -- and as such I cannot imagine any enforcement mechanism for biological processes.

Take public urination/defecation: if you do it on purpose, it can be a criminal offense. But if you shit or piss your pants because of an accident or because you just can't hold it, you don't get in trouble. So, lack of meaningful enforcement and difficulty proving intent would hamper this kind of legislation.

I just don't think it would ever happen.

That's not possible. Many people cannot hold in a fart.

While I don't care for people's fart smells, it's really not any worse than uncouth people going around saying f this and f that.

Or the smokers.

Or the publicly intoxicated.

Or the ones who blow their noses loudly in public.

Or the ones who hawk a loogy and spit in public.

My point is that there are so many bad behaviors that are purposeful to worry about - why bother with a fart?

Re: More talk of farting in public being banned
Fuck that. I love farting and WILL NOT BE fart-shamed. Honestly, I think my farts smell particularly fragrant because my diet is awesome and my ex even said that sometimes throughout the day my farts begin to smell like roses.

Why would I hold in stinky fart fumes when clearly my ass is telling me, "Yo, Dr. Grossman, dis b ur fart; I be clogged up in ur booty bcuz u afraid to toot me out. Den I mite die n dissolve n live in ur body 4ever. Come on, b; let me out into da world."

So I personally will not be dealing with shit from my insides just because some people find farting offensive. Meanwhile, farting is as organic as belching. And I often like to belch and fart at the same time, especially after having a really good meal out in public... when I start belching and farting at once, nonstop, it is my way of thanking the kitchen and restaurant staff for helping me have such a joyous evening.

Furthermore, this is just denial of human freedoms. Farting is actually one of the few things in life that cannot be literally taken away from you. I love to constantly fart as I walk down the street, secretly spreading my gaseous melodies all about the town. What's more, farting feels good. To be alive is to be a farting being; beings fart because the Creator made us farters. And the Creator G-d clearly did not make any mistakes. HUMANS, yes, make fucking junk and horrible choices out of free will all the time... but farting is in general very low on the list of evils.

Let us not pretend otherwise.
