The Lord's Prayer - The ONLY Prayer Given the Apostles - Declares the Father as Sovereign - KJV Bible Study

3 statements that Jesus made will help folks understand the "mission" that the Father has given to Him.

"I am the way" - John 14:6

"Follow me" - Matthew 4:19 and 16 other verses

"No one comes to the Father but through me" - John 14:6

The "destination" is Salvation - eternal life - in the Kingdom of God.

His God - Our God. John 20:17

The Father's Kingdom as the Lord's Prayer states.

Jesus tells us - shows us - helps us - how to get there.

The Father is sovereign over all.

The Lord's Prayer is also considered a minor rite of exorcism, which I find fascinating. Good stuff!

One of my favorite things that Jesus says is in John 10:26 - 30

26 But you don’t believe me because you are not part of my flock. 27 My sheep recognize my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life and they shall never perish. No one shall snatch them away from me, 29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else, so no one can kidnap them from me. 30 I and the Father are one.”

It gives me comfort to know that I am safe with him & no one or nothing can change that.

Simple yet powerful.

1. The Apostles asked Jesus for a prayer similar to what John the Baptist was supposedly using.

2. It has us asking for "our daily bread" - which is both food for our bodies but also "spiritual food" for our souls.

3. It has us asking forgiveness for our sins.
Some folks claim that "repenting" doesn't require that.
This shows us that is an incorrect assumption.

4. The prayer is aslo the "cornerstone" to what Jesus told the Father in John 17 about having "declared Him" to the Apostles.

1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.

26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

....

Finally...I'm sure Jesus knew ahead of time that
people would make all sorts of "claims" about Him.

The prayer declares the Father as both
sovereign and the source of all things.

We can trust Jesus because the Father SENT Him.

Some folks point to John 10:30 and John 8:24 and claim...

..."If you don't believe that Jesus is God you will die in your sins".

Yet that is NEVER said in scripture.
Here's the proof.

"Witness" verses.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Joh 17:21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Romans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

1 Peter 1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

1 John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

1 John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

1 John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

1 John 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

1 John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Context is everything.

Read from the first verse of chapter 6. Jesus was hanging out with his trainees and observed the local religious leaders standing in the public square and virtue signaling by letting everyone see them praying and giving to the needy. When praying, these ones were simply reciting memorized verse and repeating the same words.

In doing so, Jesus wanted his followers to know such prayer is rendered meaningless.

So he told them to pray in private, not to be seen and observed by others, and he gave them a prayer as an example of what to pray.

It’s just an EXAMPLE. It wasn’t meant to be dissected for deep meaning or significance.

But I don’t wish to argue with you.

It was meant as an example, as the passage in Luke is slightly different.

But notice that Jesus says "When yet pray say"

Luke 11

1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say,

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done,
as in heaven, so in earth.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4 And forgive us our sins;
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.

Yet the "issue" would be whether or not the person saying the words was "saying them in vain" - not TRULY Believing.

Both Father God and Jesus search men's hearts.

As long as the Faith / Belief is TRUE and sincere, the actual words matter little.

I just want to highlight this part, since I think this is the MOST important part of the prayer - yet most people in this world, Christians included, seem to ignore it.

To me, after I realized this and started to live accordingly, my life changed fundamentally. Things started going my way, bad things stopped happening.

The Bible also calls Christ the Savior.

Reconcile that.

God SENT Jesus - with the Father's plan of Salvation for all who Repent, Believe and do the Father's Will.

IF Father God had NOT sent Jesus - there ould NOT be any Salvation for an afterlife.

IF Jesus had REFUSED to do the Father's Will - and NOT be killed and resurrected - then there would be no Salvation.

Anything that guides us to be more in touch with God is great. And God wants to be found by us to provide comfort and benevolent guidance while we undergo the difficult task of learning to grow up spiritually to love.

It would be highly inefficient and uncaring of God to have had sent in only one spiritually advanced messenger to guide humanity to evolve.

Throughout the ages God has sent in many messengers. At the extreme ends, some appeal to a very large audience while others provide more personalize help to a single individual. Regardless, the full range of messengers are all equally important. No one messenger is more superior than all others.

And uniformly all messengers taught us to have love for oneself, for others, and for everything. To guide us to return to our true nature that is love and shed our false nature that is the ego.

We are not here randomly. We are here on purpose for an amazing long term adventure while in the human form to see if we could go from separated from God and return to being in Oneness with God by choosing love.

Jesus was not here as our "salvation for an afterlife". A part of each of us has always been with God and that is our soul. Souls are eternal, divine, and infinite because souls are a part of God. Not from God, but a part of God.

Jesus was here as a walking human example and proof of what we too could become when we choose a way of living life that aligns with love. And throughout the ages there have always been some, but not many by design, who have gained the wisdom and benevolent maturity to sincerely embrace love with pure intent and become in unity and alliance with God. They are the forerunners of spiritually advanced humans, with extra ordinary abilities unlocked by a key called love.

It is often referenced that Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."

Jesus taught us to have love, even for our enemies. That is unconditional love. And so insert love into that quote to become "LOVE is the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through LOVE".

Love has always been the solution to all our problems. Love unites us in peace, harmony, and equality. Whereas the ego divides us in envy, jealousy, greed, and superiority.

Then, is it any wonder that all spiritually advanced messengers who were here throughout the ages taught us to have love.
