Damn, the stupid is piling up deep in here. Thanks for starting it, OP. Because with a puncture wound such as a bad cat bite, other stuff can get in there. I think a doc might recommend a tetanus shot. It's been around for decades, I don't think they've fooled with it. It's good to get tetanus boosters periodically anyway - I think it's every 10 years, as lockjaw is one hell of a way to go. very unlikely in your case though. I think the shots are safe, I've had the shot myself. It's one of the VERY VERY few vaccines I'd actually consider using. I can't think of another one off the top of my head - even polio vax had issues. ugh stop recommending tetanus as previous ac asked how do you treat bacterial catch scratch fever??? OP: I had same situation as you. I actually got cat scratch fever... Literally became 'code blue' event at hospital... Had to go through surgery to reopen/disinfect all the bites/scratches etc. That is just to be extra safe as it is a puncture wound (I'm assuming it's a puncture wound, perhaps more than one) and many docs would say to get one to be on the safe side. And as I say, it's good to get your booster shot periodically anyway. I know tetanus is pretty rare now but it was once a very feared killer, even when I was a kid. do you wear multiple masks as well??? |

(it's a new cat I just got, that got out, then I TRIED to catch!) Rabies isn't an issue - it's the bacteria in their mouth. Quoting: Happy in Nature Take amoxicillin to fight the internal infection. Make a paste of ground turmeric and honey and put it on the wound. I cured a bad staph infection this way and it is my go to slave for every single wound and spider bite. You can also drink turmeric and honey as a tea or blended with coconut milk (golden milk). Turmeric is an excellent for anti-inflammatory food, which will help the swelling from cat bites. Thank you. I'm going to try your spider bite trick on my husband who is highly allergic to them. We sleep in the same bed at our country house and he wakes up looking like he went to war while I have nothing. We have the same blood type and eat/drink pretty much the same so it has to be an allergy to their venom...i guess. Poor guy. Ill check out your turmeric and honey on him. I had two brown recluse bites on my knewe (at the same time) that I cured this way. Not too long ago I read that echinacea can be used as an emergency antivenin. I haven't tried it on spider bites, but I will experiment. I also use a combo of frankincense and myrrh on insect bites and stings. It's cleaner than the turmeric paste, which stains clothes unfortunately. Two brown recluse bites on your knee at the SAME time? Yikes! Do you know where you encountered them or anything? That always scares me! Ground turmeric & honey cured the bites? That’s awesome. Was it jarred turmeric already ground or did you grind the root yourself? Any specific kind of honey? Sorry for a million questions but this is interesting info that could be incredibly helpful to people. I sometimes buy that powdered golden milk mix and it’s so delicious. Happy you are cured! Got them while collecting zinnia and cosmos seeds in my overgrown garden. I live in the jungle, so it is already spider heaven, but the flowers definitely add to the insect problem If I had access to a bath tub, I would have done the epsom soak. I did use bentonite clay to draw out the poisons, which I tend to do for severe bites. I usually mix the turmeric with the clay and then trow in some essential oils for good measure. (Can't be too safe!) The turmeric is ground and in a jar. I like to use fresh turmeric for tea. but the paste needs powder. I have used curry mix in a pinch. To get rid of the puss/infection, place a green or black tea bag on the wound and move the bag every 15 minutes. It draws out the infection. Here is a good site that talks about essential oils and spider bites. I have lavender/myrrh/frankincense in a bottle in my purse, bathroom and jungle casita, just in case. (it's a new cat I just got, that got out, then I TRIED to catch!) Cat bites are bad news. Clean with hydrogen peroxide and spread it open as much as possible. I've had a few from catching barn cats that needed something. And once on a case of mistaken identity...But that's a story I don't feel like getting into atm. You MAY need antibiotics, but you don't HAVE to have antibiotics. Just depends on if it gets infected or not. But you need to keep it clean and make sure it doesn't get infected. Soaking in Epsom salts will also help tremendously. 15 to 20 minutes maybe 3 times a day. If you have colloidal silver, start doing that immediately, too. Hope it's not too bad. My last one the fang hit right on a bone and it swelled up badly. best wishes! Things are bad enough, there is no need to make anything up. ~Fluffy "Never interrupt an enemy in the process of destroying himself." Quercitin and zinc...Get it. Take it. I know tetanus is pretty rare now but it was once a very feared killer, even when I was a kid. do you wear multiple masks as well??? Why do you have to be such an asshole? Do you work at it or does it come naturally? Tetanus is a potentially deadly disease that can infect puncture wounds like the bite of an animal. I think most docs would recommend one JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE but it probably isn't necessary in Butch's case. It's a safe vaccine, I'm virulently anti-vax but I've taken it with no effects and I've never heard of any with it. A booster shot every few years is a good idea especially if someone travels abroad. As for masks, I prefer my WW2 gas mask. It's a fashion statement. |

Quoting: Butch DeFeo This was a cat of mine, this is new to me, that I tried to catch and retrieve from wandering the streets for 4-5 days. Do I need to worry about infection on my hands via bites and scratches? ps The cat has been outside with other cats and in the community for 5 days. I love cats, but also recognize feral and other stray cats can be dangerous and carry diseases. I would clean and dress the wounds using antiseptic, ointment, and gauze bandages. Would also visit my local clinic in the morning during regular hours to get the wounds examined. No need to rush to the ER, but if you have medical insurance, visit your local clinic to get this checked out. Tell us about the cat that attacked you. Was it feral? Did it have any noticeable wounds or behaviors? If it was feral, I would definitely visit the clinic in the morning. |

Rabies is a potential, but according to my doctor there has not been a case of cat-involved rabies in 40 years. Rabies in cats is very rare. Unless the cat is acting peculiarly and you would know, it's pretty obvious, I wouldn't worry about rabies. It's more about infection, especially of any bites. Still more ignorant bullshit. You usually know if something is getting infected by whether or not it starts to turn pink or red around the wound. Hopefully you clean it right away and put antibiotic ointment and iodine.
