Holy fuck I hope you read my comment I had this happen to me long ago, I came upon a stray cat that had it's guts ripped out probably hit by a car and I approached it and it screamed and scratched bit me. I was of the mindset I would end its suffering and found a big rock and smashed its head in. I didn't know if the cat had what so I went to get rabbis shots because you can't fuck around with rabbis. As soon as you realize you have it you're dead.

Shots were 7 shots over a cpl of weeks and I am fine. No side effects or anything

If you know the cat and the cat wasnt foaming at the mouth when it bit you just clean it out and youre fine

If you get bitten by a cat you will get a Capnocytophaga infection ( [link to www.cdc.gov (secure)] which will cause you to go into septic shock in a few weeks, and you will also get Pasteurella multocida bacteria ( [link to www.usatoday.com (secure)] that will also infect you and cause you to die again.

So there is a good chance you are going to die even if you don't get rabies which you probably definitely also have and will make you die a third time.

Wash the wound with soap and water. Apply an antibiotic ointment. Monitor for signs of infection.
Be aware of the types of diseases a cat can carry and the signs and symptoms on what to look for.

Are you up to date on a tetanus shot? You don’t necessarily need a rabies vaccine. It’s kinda rare to get rabies from a cat.

Cat scratch fever is a real thing and can make you very sick. My daughter-in-law had it as a child and she almost died.

OK, so don't get a rabies vaccine. If the cat was rabid, once the virus reaches your central nervous system, which cn take days or weeks, there is a 100% probability that you will die a very horrible death shortly therafter. Hopefully the hospital will induce coma so you don't suffer too much.

The biggest risks are tetanus and staph infection. If he scratched you in any of your nail beds there is a high risk for a staph infection and you could lose a finger. I went through this 10 years ago. I got a cat scratch in my nail bed that started to get infected.

The doctor gave me a tenatus booster and said I needed antiobiotics or I'd lose my thumb. I took the tetanus shot but said no to the antibiotics and treated myself with both topical and oral turmeric in large doses and it cleared up.

I had some leftover Bactrim and doxycycline. I read that one of them works against cat scratch fever. So I'm taking those antibiotics as a prophalactic kind of treatment I guess. So I feel safe against cat scratch fever. Bactrim even treats MRSA.

No, but if the cat is rabid it would be very fucking stupid to apply your ignorant anti-vaxxer logic out of fear, refuse to get a rabies vaccine and then die an excruciatingly awful death.

On the other hand, that would preclude passing more stupid genes on to the next generation so maybe you have a great idea there.

The cat that bit me had a rabies vaccine, and they say rabies from cat bites are super rare. But yeah I know....

I was bitten and clawed by a feral cat on both hands several years ago. It was very painful! I got on antibiotics right away and made sure I kept the wounds clean and dressed. Hang in there OP, you will be all right!
