With strays, you need to live catch them and/or carry them in a pet carrier. I have 3 feral cats that I have been feeding for years and I would never try to carry them in my arms, even though they know me and come when called. They are still wild and even domestic cats don't like being manhandled too much.

I know you had to get your cat -- I get it, but it takes patience and being smarter than they are in a situation. It takes time you need to be willing to endure.

Cats teeth are very sharp and can cause terrible (deadly) infections!

If you don't believe me call your local vet and doctor!

The problem is their bite goes deep, sometimes to the bone and there pathogens can cause deadly infection.

Have the would cleaned!

Have the wound cleaned, you need to see a doctor to make sure you don't get Gangrene or blood poisoning, you may hate yourself if you do get an infection and they have to amputate a limb, don't be retarded!

I made the mistake of trying to pick up a cat that was afraid.
She butchered my hand with her back claws.
In about 3 days I started running a fever and my Dr.gave me antibiotics for cat scratch fever.

Same happened to me a few years ago. I got cat scratch fever. I went to a minute clinic. Doc wanted me to go see an infectious disease doctor but gave me antibiotics and a antibiotic cream for my arm. It got better so I never went to see another doctor. Go get the antibiotics. God knows we would not want to lose the resident pollster.

I got bitten by a cat I was fostering who had had their rabies shot. I went and got a tetanus shot because I'd never had one. This was years and years ago, but the site did get infected and I used a little neosporan on the bite site and it got better.

I know tetanus is only supposed to be for if you step on old rusty metal or something, but since I'd never had a tetanus shot, I think it was the right call.

Just curious. Did the cat get out of the house or did you let him out on purpose? People here in Ireland are dumb. They let their cats roam all over the place and just put food and water out for them like they are dogs. Cats belong in the house. Feline lukemia ya know?

I was bit deeply by my own cat while moving in 2007. I waited after my own first aid. Mistake.

Infection set in FAST - I MEAN FAST. In a couple hours I knew something wasn't right.

Cat was quarantined at home for any sign of rabies even though her rabies shot was up to date. 10 days. I had to show the rabies vaccination paperwork.

In had to get a tetanus shot, put on oral antibiotics and have my wound drained twice and packed.

Don't mess around if you see a sore aggressive infection. Go to urgent care if you have to.

Unless you have a compromised immune system. And I would just wash with soap and water and treat like any other wound. If it gets infected then go see a doctor.

Cat scratch fever is a real thing. But unless you have a compromised immune system it's just a mild cold that you get once in your life. You probably had it as a child.

If they get the cat they will pull his head off to do the test for Rabies. No other way. Choose wisely.

Second, cats are carriers of a brain-invading infection called toxoplasmosis. They shed it into your home through fecal matter.

I got bit by the stray cat that comes round our house to be fed the other week, I tried to stroke him,the bugger bit me, 2 punctures in one of my fingers, ran into the kitchen, chucked half a ton of bleach on the finger ran it under water for a few minutes. Baring in mind I have not had a tetanus jab for about 15 years. I then slather lots of iodine on it and bandaged it up, did not fancy sitting for hours in a waiting room of the hospital.

It did start to go all red and inflamed and throb, and so did a bit of my hand, and it went pussified. So I put some paste of activated charcoal on it and covered it up, and the charcoal must of brought out the badness, it started to heal. But always at the back of my mind there was "ooh what if I get septacaemia, and have to have my hand cut off" and all that.

i would only go to the ER if you start foaming at the mouth and are passed out unconscious. but go alone cuz you might be contagious.

How valuable is your arm?

If it's the right, and you're right-handed, you might want to save it.

If it's the left you're probably good to ignore it.

It all depends on what bacteria the cat injected you with.

There are some real nasty bacteria out there. A couple people died in my area after Hurricane Harvey. One simply got bitten by a mosquito while paddling a kayak through the flooded areas. Then flood water had an opening in the skin to infect. Within 2 days that person had undergone several surgeries to basically slice open his skin all over his body and then resew it back together. They had an IV going with all the best antibiotics.

I guess he lived, but it was a life changing event. From the photo in the news, he looked like a raggedy ann doll with all the stitches, and he lost a ton of weight.

Others were not so lucky and died. A couple others got infected by removing drywall in flooded houses and died shortly afterwards.


I had a nasty infection that entered a mosquito bite on my forearm that then contacted the bicep curl machine support pad at the gym.

In about 6 hours I had a hot red welt on my arm and a red line running up my arm.

Hit it hard with Sulfamethoxazole pills for a few days and it finally subsided. Without those pills I would have been dead.

It all depends on what nasties got into the wound.

Why does anyone answer this obvious BS? As if you get scratched/bit by a stray cat and need glp idiots to help you make a decision. Come one this is obviously a slide thread.

you must kill the animal to test it for Rabies, they test the Brain, best thing to do is cage it and watch for any symptoms which could take weeks or longer, if you can't catch it then you should be treated for Rabies! Sounds like OP was trying to catch a scared and hungry Cat!

he said the cat had been vaccinated for rabies. Otherwise, yup. Need to bring the cat to the ER with you. I think they dissect the brain to find out ASAP if it had rabies.

But if vaccinated already, no problem with rabies.

Hint messing with feral cats from now on, wear leather gloves, and a thick shirt with long sleeves. You are going to be fine if you do something for your wounds. I told you what I used, but if you get cat scratch fever, you need antibiotics that will fix that up. The turpentine will cure infected wounds though every time. Actually it most infections even cuts, really nasty infected wounds, it is a fast healer this is just encase you don't use leather gloves in the future with wild roam animals. Cut your leg, stop the bleeding with packed sugar if you are not a diabetic, use the turpentine to use if it gets infected, not even kidding. Who knows if some day the doctors are not around, they are taking the shots.
