(it's a new cat I just got, that got out, then I TRIED to catch!) One of the worst ass kickings I ever got was from a cage full of feral cats.had to reach in the cage and grab cats to be separated into smaller cages for the vet to spay and neuter. The cats ripped me up good.fun times. Quoting: Super Straight Splinterhead Feral cats cause so much damage to wildlife. They should be destroyed. They are great for the barn, keep the mice in check. They kill millions of birds and other small animals and are the sole spreader of toxoplasmosis - and they attack people. Regarding the problem with mice: Buzzards ond other birds of prey keep them in check. |

(it's a new cat I just got, that got out, then I TRIED to catch!) You need a rabies vaccine. Unfortunately. It's really not worth the risk. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77384380 The cat did not appear rabid, and the cat had a reason to bite me - he thought he was in danger and extremely startled as I tried to carry him home. With strays, you need to live catch them and/or carry them in a pet carrier. I have 3 feral cats that I have been feeding for years and I would never try to carry them in my arms, even though they know me and come when called. They are still wild and even domestic cats don't like being manhandled too much. I know you had to get your cat -- I get it, but it takes patience and being smarter than they are in a situation. It takes time you need to be willing to endure. |

Quoting: Butch DeFeo This was a cat of mine, this is new to me, that I tried to catch and retrieve from wandering the streets for 4-5 days. Do I need to worry about infection on my hands via bites and scratches? capture the cat and observe it for 10 days, treat it nicely during that time, may be you could be friends with that cat. eventually. But what is the timeline for getting the Rabies after bite vaccine? You have about 24 hours to decide, according to the last time I went through it. And I did, indeed, waste a good eight hours of those deciding. I don't know what lies they told you, but I can promise they were lies. There's a fine line between training, trauma, and torture. |

(it's a new cat I just got, that got out, then I TRIED to catch!) Rabies is a risk. I'd also go in for an antibiotic. I was viciously attacked by a cat once with deep puncture wounds and scratches. They would not give me any stitches because the risk of infection was so high. I was sent home with a strong antibiotic and still ended up with a high fever, chills and very ill for about 5 days. (Cat scratch fever?). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76077561 OP might also need a tetanus shot if they haven't had one. I would not put that off either if it's a puncture wound. Cats teeth are perfect vectors to transmit anaerobic bacteria to the muscle layer of tissue. Can I trust tenanus shots??? I got bitten by a cat I was fostering who had had their rabies shot. I went and got a tetanus shot because I'd never had one. This was years and years ago, but the site did get infected and I used a little neosporan on the bite site and it got better. I know tetanus is only supposed to be for if you step on old rusty metal or something, but since I'd never had a tetanus shot, I think it was the right call. Just curious. Did the cat get out of the house or did you let him out on purpose? People here in Ireland are dumb. They let their cats roam all over the place and just put food and water out for them like they are dogs. Cats belong in the house. Feline lukemia ya know? I was bit deeply by my own cat while moving in 2007. I waited after my own first aid. Mistake. Infection set in FAST - I MEAN FAST. In a couple hours I knew something wasn't right. Cat was quarantined at home for any sign of rabies even though her rabies shot was up to date. 10 days. I had to show the rabies vaccination paperwork. In had to get a tetanus shot, put on oral antibiotics and have my wound drained twice and packed. Don't mess around if you see a sore aggressive infection. Go to urgent care if you have to. Second, cats are carriers of a brain-invading infection called toxoplasmosis. They shed it into your home through fecal matter. That's where the term, "Crazy cat lady", cane from. It's a real thing. |

So I put some paste of activated charcoal on it and covered it up, and the charcoal must of brought out the badness, it started to heal. (it's a new cat I just got, that got out, then I TRIED to catch!) It all depends on what bacteria the cat injected you with. There are some real nasty bacteria out there. A couple people died in my area after Hurricane Harvey. One simply got bitten by a mosquito while paddling a kayak through the flooded areas. Then flood water had an opening in the skin to infect. Within 2 days that person had undergone several surgeries to basically slice open his skin all over his body and then resew it back together. They had an IV going with all the best antibiotics. I guess he lived, but it was a life changing event. From the photo in the news, he looked like a raggedy ann doll with all the stitches, and he lost a ton of weight. Others were not so lucky and died. A couple others got infected by removing drywall in flooded houses and died shortly afterwards. I had a nasty infection that entered a mosquito bite on my forearm that then contacted the bicep curl machine support pad at the gym. In about 6 hours I had a hot red welt on my arm and a red line running up my arm. Hit it hard with Sulfamethoxazole pills for a few days and it finally subsided. Without those pills I would have been dead. It all depends on what nasties got into the wound. Last Edited by JustmeTX on 04/16/2021 08:10 AM Justme |

You are going to be fine if you do something for your wounds. I told you what I used, but if you get cat scratch fever, you need antibiotics that will fix that up. The turpentine will cure infected wounds though every time. Actually it most infections even cuts, really nasty infected wounds, it is a fast healer this is just encase you don't use leather gloves in the future with wild roam animals. Cut your leg, stop the bleeding with packed sugar if you are not a diabetic, use the turpentine to use if it gets infected, not even kidding. Who knows if some day the doctors are not around, they are taking the shots. Sorry I got a headache These are the times that tries men's and women's souls! May we come though it victorious! |
