Remember that they will be tired and hungry from all their previous looting.
For the most part stock piling "preps" is insanity.
Now if you were putting it in a cache, then that would be a different thing.
Most stockpiling keeps you from being mobile, so you will stay put until it is to late, you will be overrun and your preps, looted.
If you are lucky you will be left alive, but destitute. They will probably burn your home for resisting them.
And what will you do then?

Canned bean soup- lentil, black bean, etc
Gluten free pasta
Exotic grains like quinoa
Oat bran- goes good with raisins
Russet potatoes
Black and green tea

If there’s a good deal on oatly get that. Soy milk is ok but use in moderation.

Short term doom: canned food, sterno to heat it up, sleeping bags, a tent. Battery operated radio.

Longer term: staples such as flour and sugar. Popcorn that has a long shelf life and can be ground into grits or corn meal.

A good pair of boots! Gloves and a parka. A garden cart or kids wagon to haul your stuff. A shovel to dig your bunker and a saw or axe for logs to build. A roll of plastic for a roof.

There is a lot more depending on your budget.

However, without a firearm and ammo, you could become a victim. That train almost left the station.

Once upon a time I went broke and lost everything. My first prep item was a 12 gauge pump from a pawn shop and a box of buckshot plus 50 lbs. of beans and ditto for rice.

If you are poor, think basics.

Also solar panels rechargeable batteries and a hand crank or pedal crank generator in addition to a small gas powered generator. Also several bottles of fuel stabilizer and extra gas cans.

Instead of growing purely ornamental trees--people in urban areas should start growing walnut trees--low maintenance---walnuts lasted for years in their shells
Lentil bushes also low maintenance--lentils can be stored indefinitely--but need to be cooked
