Georgia Presidential Election Question
Can't sleep.

The people on Twitter have upset me expressing their opposition to the new voting laws in Georgia. Hey, just stay out of Georgia, fine by me. I like my state small and rural.

Anyhoo, so I have been looking into the results to see if there has been fraud? I still have no come to a conclusion but another question came up for me:

"What are Georgia’s runoff election rules?

In Georgia, local and statewide candidates hold runoff elections on December 1, 2020. For federal candidates and special Senate elections, the top two vote-getters are up for the second election on January 5, 2021. The exact day may vary from year to year, but the time frame remains the same: four weeks for local and statewide, and eight weeks for federal. However, this doesn’t apply to presidential races for which the state does not hold a runoff should a candidate not get the majority of votes since it is already narrowed down to two candidates."

????? There were 3 candidates ?????

If no Presidential candidate in GA gets 50% - would they have a run off election? Jo Jorgenson got enough votes to potentially block either from getting to the required 50%

Runoffs do not apply to the presidential election.

Can you show where in the law it says that"

Does anyone know exactly how the law reads? Does it say "For Federal candidates"? Yes, the vote was close enough to trigger a recount but why did the Federal candidate majority law not apply in this case as well with a special election being required?

Trump 2,461,837 49.25 %
Biden 2,474,507 49.51 %
Jo Jorgensen 62,138 1.24 %

Re: Georgia Presidential Election Question
Ok, well dammit, I did find the law:

Georgia Constitution

(f) Except for presidential electors, to be elected to public office in a general election, a candidate must receive a majority of the votes cast in an election to fill such public office.  To be elected to the office of presidential electors, no slate of candidates shall be required to receive a majority of the votes cast, but that slate of candidates shall be elected to such office which receives the highest number of votes cast.

....

By majority, I assume they mean > 50%.

Hey, I tried, a little late, but I tried.
