All the farmers around don't plant until 1st week of June or later. Do your old school gardeners have perennial 'plant this day' trees and such? Here...as the alders bud plant kale. I forget the name of it but it is following local plants to do garden planting. I had just planted them a couple days ago and I was worried the seeds would just blow away. The seeds are so tiny! I grew carrots last year for the first time, the taste is amazing! Nothing like what you buy at the store. Been raining all week but my lettuce, spinach and cabbage are sprouting! So exciting to see, I never get tired of it. To all of you starting with container gardening, good for you!!! I did that for years, 5 gallon buckets. You can get a lot of veggies that way, and less weeding. Quoting: The 4 50331143 Why was he traveling at night ? There must have been 20 pallets I honked passing by Cooler temps at night is less stressful for the seedlings. They banned fox farm soils here (along with many of Stamets mushroom products) because they are 'too active'...lol...fox farm rocks. The fellow that owns it bought a bunch of defunct cement trucks whose barrels still turned. Very active and lively sols indeed! He's probably expanded by now. So far though, everything has been growing like mad. I'm so proud of my little garden!! Watering with hydrogen peroxide can help remedy drowning roots. But you need a careful amount mixed in water and not over do it. Just enough will add oxygen in the soil with out burning the plants roots. There's lots of stuff online about that. Using tap water? If so it's better to let it evaporate the chlorine. I let my plant water sit 1 day with no lid. Though that's not very practical for a modest outdoor garden. Mostly for house plants and special outdoor plants. Having seen it in large cannabis grows...if you add a simple airstone (like you get for an aquarium) to the water while sitting you get some of the benefits of H2O2 and the chlorine offgasses quicker. If my leaves start turning yellow, I'll try the peroxide. For now, they look really good. I use the hose to water. I hadn't even thought about the chlorine content. Now I'm concerned :( Chlorine just makes a smaller plant. It won't kill them but it does make them smaller, in my experience anyways. I wouldn't concern about it. But if you have a prized plant, that one special plant like trying to get the biggest watermelon or the biggest tomato plant.... out gas the chlorine. |

Should I bring in all my containers out of the rain, or will it be okay? Goodbye, halcyon days... Should I bring in all my containers out of the rain, or will it be okay? Do your containers have drainage holes? The plastic ones do. The fabric ones are breathable, I guess, so they don't have them. But I do have one concrete planter with some zinnias - I can't move this one and it doesn't drain. I probably should have planted the zinnias in a pot and put them inside the planter :( Goodbye, halcyon days... I went out there this morning with the intent of dumping it and starting over - knowing that it's probably too late to try and start another batch of carrots from seed, but wanting so badly to make it work. There, greeting me from the container, were three little carrot seedlings. They. Germinated. And. Sprouted. OMG. Goodbye, halcyon days... Seriously - this world has gone to absolute shit and I went and sat outside barefoot in my little (beginner's) garden, and I literally FELT my blood pressure go down...I felt my body relax. Quoting: Only Me So this is my first actual garden. I've grown things here and there, but this is the first time I actually sat down and planned out an actual garden. I saw my first potato sprouts yesterday and squealed with delight. I grew that! There are few things as exciting as watching veggies grow that you put there yourself. Oh. my. goodness....why didn't I start doing this earlier??? Female humans, and female plants are the two best things in life. heres a word from all the plants though. all the plants of earth that make up the collective actively hate on the humans for disrupting the oxygen/cO2 balance causing the plants to release emf that causes paranoia, depression, and rage. sol the star ya ac |

It was lovely while it lasted. It just got too warm to keep it going. But, my green beans have started forming little pods and some of my flowers are starting to blossom! My potatoes look like a forest because they've grown so tall, and they have started to flower, so they should be done anytime! Let's see...beets, carrots, tomatoes, corn, peanuts, all that other stuff is just growing like crazy! I have more basil than I can use in a year already, and it's still growing....my chamomile is about to blossom, I think... Hooray for me! I feel like an earth wizard or something!
