Who is gardening? It is very therapeutic!

I have a garden. I can't work the ground until June because of the rain. Arkansas gets a lot of rain in the spring. I really like gardening. I have strawberries, blackberries and some fruit trees.

I planted okra, turnip, beets and radish today.
I have my drip lines on em and can’t wait to see the sprouts.

We have lots of gardeners on GLP. I love it!

Also, my lettuce has been growing like mad. Looks like I have a ton of salad in my future!

That's an interesting combination. One hot weather crop and three cool weather crops. Be careful with overwatering okra especially if the ground is still cool. Okra is prone to damping off.

Got my seeds all in before the rain! I see others also took advantage of the full moon to plant.

Trying new things this year: sugar snap peas, green beans, radishes, yellow squash and pumpkins. Tomatoes peppers lettuce cabbage carrots and spinach too. The garden will be cram packed but maybe less room for weeds.

Raccoons raided my corn last year so I'm still debating if I want to try again.

I've seen cinderblock beds raised to waist height for older people/people with disabilities. Higher raised beds (cinderblock is best, no wood critters/rot) help with heavy rains.

My dogs dug up my marigolds.

Just the marigolds and nothing else.

Was out around 7:30 this morning. Finished hoeing the tomato bed and put in a load of soil.
Gonna plant Arkansas Travelers later today. I found a 6 pack at a local rural hardware store a few weeks ago. First I’ve been able to find in a few years.

Something dug up my azalea bush last night. I even sprinkled cayenne pepper around it when I planted it a few days ago. Very frustrating, I am constantly fighting critters around here.

Let's take a deep breath and relax by the plants, you guys. Seriously - this world has gone to absolute shit and I went and sat outside barefoot in my little (beginner's) garden, and I literally FELT my blood pressure go down...I felt my body relax.

So this is my first actual garden. I've grown things here and there, but this is the first time I actually sat down and planned out an actual garden. I saw my first potato sprouts yesterday and squealed with delight. I grew that!

There are few things as exciting as watching veggies grow that you put there yourself.

Oh. my. goodness....why didn't I start doing this earlier???

Question for the seasoned gardeners:

My dogs dug and spread marigolds everywhere and now they are sprouting up with my spinach. Should I pull them or will the spinach do okay with the competition? They are everywhere. Absolutely everywhere omg

Marigolds keep a lot of nasty insects away. I always have a bunch between the garden and areas with insects like woods, wild grasses.

I think it will be ok but, marigolds like a higher Ph. If too acidic they get black spots on leaves.

Try it and see. Some plants grow well together, some don't. Trial and error.

Look up electroculture. I have 1st hand experience with it and it's very real. Any where atmospheric electric flux is concentrated into soil the plants thrive, grow bigger.

Aluminum downspouts, power line ground wires, fences over concrete that lead to soil, etc....

Metal railing not grounded, attach a wire and lead it to the garden. Plants LOVE it.

raised beds?

I've been using fabric grow pots. It's nice to be able to move them around :)
