You're welcome. i like the idea of the runners that would elevate the ceiling the height of the runners and cheaper than a huge slab then could just make a floor from some 2x4 and plywood and seal with spray foam runners around the outside wouldnt need underpining to keep out mice and snakes . good tip thanks |

Also I will come back tommorow to this thread to clear things up if there are any misunderstandings. If you really want a good floor insulator against cold and humidity or even bugs and rats you ll need a foundation structure like this: - a first layer of sand, like 5 cm at least, then some 10 cm gravel stone (not compulsory but I recommend it for harsh winters) and then concrete (minimum 10 cm). Also, after the sand layer if you put concrete directly on sand is very important to lay a polyethylene foil between the sand and concrete. Now, for the house insulation: - mineral wool for interior. You can put this after the fundation before the floor and under the roof. - extruded or graphite polystyrene boards for outside. also after foundation before the floor, and outside around the house but not under the roof. this will up your house temperature by 10 F degrees depending on the boards thickness. the thicker the better. For the roof I recommend metal tiles because of the ergonomics of it. Their only con is the louder raining noises but nothing too bad. Good luck with it! Edited for contextual clarity. It's a company I think out in fly-over country that takes these old vinyl signs and sells them for repurposing. They make a nice farm pasture slip-n-slide, hehe! But you could get one and that'd work. Of course you'd have to do something like try and camo it up somehow if it's for a hunting crib. Definitely raise it up, either on cinder blocks or plastic pallets, consider rain drain off (french drain if need to). Makes me wish for my younger days. I miss hunting. Hey and keep us posted on your progress, Coastie! I imagine a few of us here will be keenly interested in your design for future plans if SHTF majorly. And thought struggles against the results, trying to avoid those unpleasant results while keeping on with that way of thinking. My wife side of the family so one built a hunting/shooting house and used the same . If you look at the link I added you can see what I would like it to be like. Primarily just somewhere to get out of the weather and not be an ice box. I am in bad shape Zenobia. Almost 300# thanks covid. And sleep apnea and it takes very little to get me winded. I have been getting out trout fishing and morel hunting. Tons of ticks this year.... scared to turkey hunt with all the ticks. |

Got just the thing for covering! Go to Craigslist and search for billboard vinyl coverings for sale. But you could get one and that'd work. Of course you'd have to do something like try and camo it up somehow if it's for a hunting crib. Maybe PVC roof panels, the wavy kind? That would help w/ water drainage to rain barrels. Also, consider an envelope design, meaning a structure w/in a structure w/ air barrier. Doesn't have to be a whole lot of space, even just maybe 10-12 inches would be enough to help w/ your interior temps before firing up tent stove. If you have welding skills or know someone, you can make a nice pot belly wood stove w/ 3 or 4 tire rims. Good luck w/ your build project! And go slow since you're ailing from this whole 'Rona crap time period. Lots of folks are out-of-shape and need to go slow in whatever they do.
