Credit scores were invented to have a color blind way of determining the credit worthiness of the individual. Banks would just look at the number, not the person, and make a credit determination. It turns out certain groups are more likely to exhibit traits indicating they'll pay back money than others, so on average, they have higher credit scores, and pay less in interest. So credit scores became racist.
