A routine stop is already a confrontational situation with a huge power differential and the power is on the Cop's seat. This situation can take wrong turn at any point. I wouldn't chance it anymore in today's racial intense climate. Can't cops take a picture of the infraction and tag and mail in the ticket? Isn't that safer now a days? If they knew about the arrest warrant, I suspect this would have been done differently. Also, why shoot someone who runs. I rather let them run and call for back up. Shooting a running man if he doesn't have a weapon to me is just not right. Cops use the routine traffic stops to check out suspicious people or vehicles. If cops see a busted tail light or air freshener or whatever the fuck, just send a ticket to whoever owns the car. That would cut down on SO MANY PROBLEMS all across the country. I really don't think many cops relish routine traffic stops - a lot of them get killed or injured in those too.
