My neighbors thought I was loony for picking weeds out of the yard and eating them, but they were missing out on some good broadleaf plantain cooked just like any other greens. We also always cooked our poke mixed in with scrambled eggs. Now that's some good eatin' right there y'all! Lol Oh and mulberries! Can't forget those!

Re: It’s spring time, eat some wild edible plants
heh. for some reason a lot of my posts have been not showing up on various threads.
I tried to reply about the sting. Most of the sting comes from little hairs on the underside of the leaves so best to only touch the stems and far down from the leaves.
There is another plant called jewel weed or touchmenot that often grows nearby and you can crush the leaves of that plant and rub on a sting and it will stop it immediately.

Jewel weed also is good if you get a rash from poison Ivy.

Egyptian spinach, no one will know it's food. You could have 10 of these trees on your property and no one would realize what it was.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77772830

Is that the same as Maluka spinach? it think it's called. Crazy stuff that.

The Morrells will be popping up soon to go with my salmon.
 Quoting: Super Straight Splinterhead

Speaking my language. Was promised if I moved back north, I would be taken Morel hunting... Same as usual. No one wants to go. I am enraged.
 Quoting: Fossy

We follow the logged units from the year before or the burns here in oregon. Morel hunting is also one of my favorite things to do as spring is a great time to wander the woods.i love berry season too from huckleberry to the black cap raspberries.
 Quoting: Super Straight Splinterhead

You gotta send pics. I picked some morels in Missouri one year, they were over 10 inches tall and as big as a pop can, so heavy some had bent over. This was before internet and cell phones. They were in an old dried up pond with Sycamore trees all around. Sycamore leaves were thickly strewn from years of being undisturbed.. UNtil I discovered them. lol

Make sure to harvest from clean areas that have not been exposed to toxins... roadsides, fertilizers, weed killers, etc.

We used to live in town. For 17 years I never once used fertilizer or weed killer on our property. It was like a giant salad.

lol! I am surrounded in poison ivy here. It's never been attended to, I've already had it three times this year. Right now it's on my eyelid... I will have to use the weed killer or spend all summer in the ER. I'm highly susceptible. :(

Re: It’s spring time, eat some wild edible plants
Fried dandelion blossoms - saw this on the Farmers Almanac and wanna try :)

INSTRUCTIONS
Pick new dandelion blossoms (ones on short stems). Rinse in cool, lightly salted water. Cut off stem ends close to flower heads, leaving just enough to hold petals together. Roll flowers in paper towels to remove excess moisture. Make batter by combining egg, milk, flour, salt and pepper. Dip flowers into batter. Drop batter-coated blossoms into deep fryer set at 375 F. Fry until lightly browned. Drain on absorbent paper and sprinkle with more salt as taste dictates. Enjoy!

I remember when I was young--to my embarrassment--my mother picking weeds from the sidewalk to cook
She didnt do it often--so they were probably medicinal
The plant had jagged leaves--- so it was either dandelion or cat's ear
In case of a Collapse scenario-- city dwellers need not starve

Yes, I made Dandelion wine, it was good, but like all those homemade wines - very sweet. You have to add so much sugar.
Farmers Almanac has several recipes for wild plants.
