Ironically, I just returned from 9 day Tulum stay a few days ago. Same story. My wife planned the trip 6 or 8 months ago. She researches things for months and plans all of our trips, really well. I don’t have time to do that, so I don’t complain about it. I’d probably not go anywhere at all, then bitch that I’m tired and need a break. It’s a division of duties sort of thing. I fix the cars, the house, the taxes and provide security. She plans the culture. She chose Mexico because it was generally cheaper and still open, while Europe and other places were questionable. ($100 a night room, $350 round trip airfare). We were skeptical about the whole thing after Biden happened, but agreed to go anyway. I’m not Mexico-savvy.

I’m not trying to convince anyone anything about Mexico, but we enjoyed it. It was a beautiful and tranquil place.

It turned out to be one of the best vacations we’ve had in years. We didn’t stay at an all-inclusive. We had a rental car and branched out every day in a different direction and covered several thousand kilometers. Everywhere we went, the people were kind and the food was excellent, but I’m generally courteous to people and tip well, because, well...it’s the right thing to do.

Everywhere we went, even in the small Mayan towns, the workers were ALL masked up and very attentive to cleanliness and sterilization. They were serious about it. It was us, the American and European tourists who weren’t masking. I live in California with some of the most Draconian COVID policies in the USA. Mexico, (at least this part), had us beat. Most places also had a sterilizing mat you stepped on as you entered and you were given hand cleaner.

This also isn’t a discourse on the merits or demerits of masking or any of the other protocols, I’m just relating the practices we observed.

I really don’t think they’re trying to get us sick. I think they’re trying to protect their tourism industry.

Anyway, we tested negative with the quick test, showed the email to the Alaska ticket agent and boarded the plane home. The flight was chock full both ways, by the way.

I forgot to mention that Hydroxychloroquine is available in all the farmacias there for about 1000 pesos ($50). It has another name, but says Hydroxychloroquina right on the box.

I too am a US citizen currently in the Rivera Maya area (been here for over a month because I am about to move here so I can escape the Biden regime, so I am here getting shit lined up before I apply for residency) but I am not staying in a shit hole resort so if I test positive there won't be any guard guarding me. Of course I am not a dick so I will quarantine myself rather than going out and exposing others.

I do think the US refusing to let you return home if your COVId test is positive is bullshit though. How TF is that constitutional? They let US citizens with Ebola come back to the US... Also they are letting in illegals who are COVID positive and they are turning them loose in the interior of the US. Yet if you're a US citizen and you test positive you can't come back in. They need to have flights twice a week for those who are positive that wish to go back.

How awful can it be to be stuck in Cancun though? Agree it sucks if your jobs are at risk. But the weather there's great, nice beaches, probably not too crowded if you go an hour south although maybe it's all built up now.

When we travel we always get out of the all-inclusives and see how the place really is. Sucks for your wife to be stuck in her room but she wouldn't mind if you make daytrips would she?
