The sad irony that people who care the most often do because they themselves have suffered through a certain degree of pain themselves.

Aside from standard major pains such as loss of love or loved ones (unless it's unusually high), only a minority suffer long bouts of major pains/situations that are traumatic enough to change person. However you either end up messed up in the head, destruftive, or sympathetic (caring). The ones who.wind up caring may not be entirely free from issues or trauma themselves leaving very few for you to meet.
