Why are pitbulls still being adopted at Animal Control facilities?

I tried calling my Legislator and Representatives on this. They won't budge because "hunting dogs" and classification of "dangerous dogs".

In California so many dogs are neutered that pitbulls are the only ones left to adopt.

The only way pitbulls will cease to exist is if a vigilante system is in place where people adopt and put the dogs down themselves.

Pit Bull OWNERS should be doing serious JAIL TIME if their dog goes wild and hurts a person or another animal.

If you want to own one of those unstable dog ... well YOU are responsible for controlling it. YEP even when it is in a feeding /attack frenzy YOU should be stepping between it and the animal it is attacking and stop the attack, even if that means the attack then gets directed at you personally.

TWO YEARS in jail, before probation, I think would be an appropriate length for the sentence.

If it is person who was attacked FOUR YEARS minimum would be more appropriate.

Ah yes, pitbulls.... shit breed for shit people.

The dog owner should be made to take 2 shots each of AZ, J&J and Moderna.

The video would have been way shorter and way more exciting if that horse wasn't hitched...

Yet we worry about guns... none of mine have broke their leashes or disobeyed orders and attacked.. how's a dog not a weapon? If I was carrying and a dog attacked me or my family I would empty it on that shit eater at first opportunity.

A girl who was at the same school as me had her daughter eaten and killed by her own let Pitbull, she was only about 4 yrs old. This dog breed should be banned, exterminated and made extinct. Stop having sympathy for pitbulls.

Stabbing a Pitbull will not stop it. The woman whos daughter was eaten/mauled to death tried stabbing the dog multiple times, but it wouldn't let go.

Exactly. Some get lucky & it doesn't happen. This is not a family dog breed if you like your children with intact faces.

It's the breed. Pit bulls are aggressive killers and are known to kill many children.

I’d argue the opposite. This video is a dose of reality, and represents a very real situation that we could find ourselves in. Watching how others react to these circumstances is how we learn what to do, and what NOT to do.

Sure, there’s a limit, such as mutilation videos. But videos like this, or people being assaulted while out in public are VERY real representations of what we may have to overcome one day.

Knowledge is power. Stay prepared.

Just another reason to always carry. Dog needed to be put down on the spot.

The Animal Shelter I’ve been taking care of downtown for the last 25 years has always had a host of pit bulls up for adoption from crime busts of the local thuggery.

Pit bulls are a problem. A ticking time bomb.

Maybe... Maybe... the breed would be acceptable, but with the millions of drug runners/makers/distrubutors using them as disposable security, they are a real danger.

Assault weapons with minds of their own.

The owners get all defensive.. my little puppy would never hurt anyone. blah blah blah. Then a drug dealer's dog gets loose and kills someone.

or someone adopts one that used to belong to a drug operation.
The dog may be peaceful on the surface to the new owner, but god help anyone else.

Once the dog has been weaponized, it is a weapon.

And they get abandoned all the time.

I was on a bike path walking one morning before work and a pit bull appeared in front of me out of the morning fog.

Luckily, he just walked alongside me like he was my dog. Even tried to get in my truck when I left.

Could have easily been a bad morning.

Pit bulls need to go...

Blame the owners, not the dogs. Any dog can be made mean.

I have a Boxer/Pittie I found starving on a bike trail by my old house, a little over a year ago.We tried finding the owner, my daughter posted the info on social media, we contacted the local shelters,the city Animal Control, had her checked for a chip at the Vets, etc. No one ever claimed her and we kept her. We got her all of her shots, got her spayed, and got her city license.
My late husband had terminal cancer, and "Princess" stepped up as a service dog for him, until my husband passed away on June 29th last year.The cancer had spread to his brain, and he had seizures. Princess alerted us when my husband was going to have a seizure.She stayed by his side, comforting him and watching over him.

Princess is an excellent guard dog, but also a big play baby. She barks and growls when anyone comes by the house or yard. When we have guests,she brings ALL her toys out, as she thinks everyone comes over to play with HER, not visit with us.

I am a responsible dog owner. Before we moved into our new home a month ago, I had a secure 6ft cyclone fence put up around the yard, so my dogs could not get out.I also have signs posted "Beware of Dog".
FTR, I have an old Fox Terrier, besides Princess. They get along good, and Princess likes cats, too.

I don't know what kind of life Princess had at her former home. She definitely is not a mean dog, and maybe THAT is why she was abandoned.

Most Pitties are good dogs. The way you raise your dog, makes all the difference.

Only a few people have the knowledge and skills to properly handle and train a pit. Sadly, many people who get these dogs only want them for the badassery thing <--- wrong reason.

Nowhere close to the most awful we have seen.

It is just a warning for the very easily upset.

Most GLPers are not easily upset, or we would not be here.

That dog isn't even full blooded pitbull, looks like boxer or bulldog bred half with a pitbull. Stupid owner creates stupid dog what you expect
