The chip shortage is hitting HARD. Expect much worse.

Ive been selling old, obsolete ddr2 and 1 on ebay, along with old motherboards, for wildly high prices. People are keeping old infra running longer.

Reminds me of a chat i had on a flight about a year ago. guy was a supplh chain manager for tsmc. he was stressed over the shutdowns snd told me something interesting. its 6 months from start to finish of a product. he described a stoppage in 1 plant as no big deal, they plan for that. however when everything shut down, including the raw materials production, that was a major logistical unplanned unknown.

he told me it would be q3/q4 when we saw the effects. the supply backlog is rather deep and we had months of supply already on the ship. this was specific to chipsets as thats what they make.

i think with the election theft and surrounding months of uncertainty ppl just had other priorities, until now in q1 and entering q2. I think its hitting, and going to get much worse.
