They were the first to report a change in the earth's wobble after the Fukushima event. I set up a homemade sundial yesterday and according to the directions, you are to point due north and look at the shadow to determine the time. I pulled up the compass app on my iphone and set the sundail due north. This was yesterday at 1 pm. At that time, due north was pointing directly at our neighbor's house about 1/2 a mile away on a nearby ridge (we are out in the country in WNC and our houses are far apart on ridgetops). Make note by way of a landmark or tree of exactly where you are standing and where it is pointing. Give it a couple of hours then go back and check again. Report here what you are seeing. I had several set up around my living room (not by anything metallic) and they would swing 10 to 15 degrees on a regular basis. Pictures of the earth's magnetic field/shield would change almost daily. 30 degrees? must be growing wilder. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |

This is mine from today. Set to true north using time. White line is where magnetic North from phone compass showed. I want to try with real compass but can't find mine either :) You can also roughly determine true north using a satellite image of your property. I don't know if magnetic ley lines have that effect throughout the day. Or possible the geology of the land you live on. Like if there's a large iron ore deposit under you or something? Not sure if those things would effect compasses or not. |

My pops often comes to me with a similar observation of crooked and changing north position. I depend a lot on knowing where the north is because I have to be sure the fixed position of the solar panels my company installs has to be due north for maximum fixed array year round yield (with the proper inclination). I use my Iphone compass but I am sure it's set to geographical north and not magnetic north, just because magnetic sensors tend to be very easy to fool if you have metals around. When I use the magnetometric version, you can get completely different north reading if you hold the compass near metallic furniture (or a table with metallic legs) or if you are near a metallic structure outside. It can vary by as much 50° if you get nearer of farther from the metallic (steel is the most disruptive) object. My father, with his magnetic old school compass, insists he sees day to day changes about the same magnitude that you mention, but I have never been able to see those with my Iphone, only when I use the magnetic north setting and move it around metallic objects. Who knows, perhaps it's truly wobbling 30° degrees, but as it takes a day to do so, we still don't notice and the media doesn't report it and anyone claiming it online is just another crazy internet loon. I hope you can clear the matter. I recall at least one thread about the exact same topic from several years ago (2011 perhaps?). All great truths begin as Blasphemies. G.B.S. GLP is like a diamond mine of information, in the sense that you have to shovel mountains of crap to find the diamonds, but it's still worth the pain. |
