SC is better than NC in everyday. NC born and bred but just moved south of the border. Cheaper everything.

Sadly for anyone looking to buy, NC housing market is absolutely crazy right now. Prices are through the roof.

Affirmative, but if you look outside the bigger cities you can find something decent. That's if you work remotely or situated where you don't have to commute into big city all the time.

LOTS of Buckeye folks live here in NC. See if you already know someone here and can help you find something.

Housing Prices in Most "Normal Places" have gone through the roof since mid 2020. The advice I would give Op is to "Hunker Down" with Good Family Members till what ever is going on eases. Cool heads are better decisions made.

NC can be expensive. How much are you willing to pay? You can find some cheaper places in SC and North GA.

I would stay in the Buckeye state for now.

Try a straight shot south. Central Florida is very affordable. Try Sebring area, Highlands County. Some of the biggest bargains to be found there. You'd be not that far from Orlando and a quick flight home to Ohio from Sanford or Orlando Int'l airports.

Check out taxes, too! In Hot Springs, AR, food was taxed at 10% in the historic district. In Small Town, Iowa, it's 0% and makes a huge difference. Pick your weather disaster and what a mobile home can survive. The Carolinas get hurricanes; tornado alley gets tornados except for the crystal swath between Little Rock and eastern Oklahoma, Texas and Florida are under attack for standing up for themselves, and such.

Plenty of free houses in places you'd rather not live (Pine Bluff).

If you move to NC how are you going to still be Ohio chic?

Seriously, sorry you are having troubles. Be careful about uprooting your life on a whim. I am in healthcare and have taken a few traveling contract jobs. Are you able to do something like that? I recommend getting to know the town before buying so you know which area you like.

Just came back from NJ. I really like Salem Va just below Roanoke though I only passed thru. It is surrounded by mountains which had a light dusting of snow at the time. It was small but had all the fast food joints, Walmart, etc. Seemed kinda slow paced.

The housing market is booming right now. Prices here in poordunk south ga are up 30 to 40 K. Good interst rates, bad prices.

Is staying put totally out of the question? There are plenty on GLP that will be there for you.
