Not only that, but ~2 million soldiers fought for the union. there were 393,975 slave owners in the United States in 1860. Some might argue that it wasn't only the slave owner that benefited, but their spouse and children as well. I would say that the spouse would bear responsibility, but not the children as they would have no say in the matter. So conservatively just assuming each slave owner had a spouse, we'll double the number to reach 787950 slave owners. So the average white person in the US is over twice as likely to have an ancestor that fought to free the slaves than to have an ancestor that owned slaves. Not that it makes any sense for people to be responsible for the actions of their ancestors, but even if it DID make sense, how would that make all whites guilty? It doesn't. This is not about logic or fairness, it's about racial hate Quoting: No one at all Except those of more recent immigration. Reparations? I never hear anyone discuss the sacrifice and contribution that White Men of the UNION ARMY made in freeing the Black slaves during the Civil War 1861-1865. It is estimated that almost 400,000 Union Soldiers died during the conflict, and of course 99.9% of them were white. Many more were maimed with amputations due to the brutal force of the ammunition used during the war. Everyone complains about confederate flags and statues of confederate soldiers, but no one ever mentions the fact that if it was not for WHITE MEN, who believed that slavery was evil and all men were created equal. Enough to fight and DIE for the rights of other men. So if you want to talk about reparations, at least if you were a slave, you were set free after the war. If you were a dead Union Soldier, you got nothing but a stone cross in a battle field cemetery. .... so ya, lets blame white people for everything. The War of Northern Aggression was totally useless and the soldiers of both north and south died in vain. To be sure, it was the Social Justice Warriors, (the abolitionists) of the north that were determined to genocide all Southerners. The South just wanted to leave the Union that they had voluntarily joined, but the yankees wouldn't allow a peaceful separation. What will happen if Texas seriously wants to secede?
