Humanity is on the verge of accension

A right reserved for civilized humanoid species when they "come of age". The tricky part of this unfortunatly is centered around disarming hostile and isolated nations as well as disarming citizens. Earths intergration to the rest of galactic society will take place when other species feel confident that they won't get shot by some overly religious or nationalist human. So up to this point no species feels comfortable even making contact for fear that it will cause Civil unrest amongst earths population. Imagine a space craft landing in the middle of a city with a population of around 30-40 thousand a craft lands and these travelers from other worlds/galaxy step out and really make contact. That can not happen on earth yet because even just 1 person armed with assault weapons could make it there mission to "protect" earth from invaders. These beings aren't trying to harvest our organs drink our blood or consume our essence they want nothing from us they make no demands but they do have conditions they expect us to live up to if we want there help. In a perfect world we would wake up tomorrow and it would be the day the last firearm was taken off the streets. All governments decided to sit a table as equals and not as rivals. That would be the same week a fleet of UFOs small and shockingly big appear in the sky and give earth a warm welcome.
