I agree. I like him, because he`s not trying to sell something in his lyrics.

IE: Cristal, Beemers, Bentley, Porsche, Audi, Acura, Gucci, Burberry, Versace, KFC etc

He`s just reminding me to think for myself.

And he does excellent work reminding me, like most hip hop artists attempt.

Would like to share some of my personal experiences with Immortal Technique...

Before I start I want it known...I am not an expert on Hip Hop...and I will not get drawn into any debate of it. I know what I feel and what my spirit connects to.

I'm in my 50s and both my daughter, her husband and my son are very much into the underground hip hop (this is what I prefer to call the scene) scene here in the Chicago area. I was also the Executive Director of a youth empowerment organization for many years and a good part of our work was to empower young people with the assistance of creative arts...HIP HOP..and the elements of hip hop. I have seen the power that hip hop has when used in a positive manner (not meaning the lyrics but the actions of the people promoting it) and I am very hopeful that the future is in very good hands.

All we ever see in the mainstream is the commercialized hip hop that is promoted for other reasons (FEAR, IGNORANCE, APATHY) than for uplifting people out of their situations, whatever those situations may be. So the general public is vastly unaware of the modern prophets like Immortal Technique (there are others but he seems to be the one that really hits the nail on the head when calling out the politicians, the institutions, etc.).

I met Immortal and have stayed in contact with him over the years. My wife and I received invitations to his shows when he comes through Chi-town. I have seen him live one time and it was a lesson...in lyrical mastery. He is one of a kind...and the fact that he will not accept any deals that will restrict his ideas and the freedom to express them has earned my respect. He's not in it for the money..but to awaken people to what is taking place all around us.

That's my two cents. I was already older when hip hop was first becoming main stream. My musical era was motown and of any of the 60s music that awakened people to their greater potential.

Raz, all too true. But there is rap and there is hip hop. Sage Francis, Sole (see the album 'Bottle of Humans' especially), and some others out there are fantastic artists and should not be grouped in with the likes of the names mentioned in this thread.

it sounds like you don't really like rap music then.. just maybe a certain genre of it. to say you like a kind of music but only enjoy 1% of the artists means you really don't like that kind of music. you should stick to r&b or poetry.. that sounds more like your style

no rap music is rap music. different artist have different styles and different things to express. just like in rock music you have the classic rock, 80's hair rock, metal, grunge, punk etc.. but its all still rock music

Yeah, I enjoy most forms of music. Or at the very least, respect them for adding content to the artists community, even if my opinion of their artistic content is nothing but tripe. Some people find tripe delicious. I tried it at a Vietanamese restaurant once... I thought it was just OK. Nothing spectacular.

But yeah, r&b and poetry is like a heroin iv drip to my ears.
