The Christian community often prays for victims of gun violence, and now Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is openly mocking them.
“In the past, when they sent it over to us last time, it went into [fomer Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell’s legislative graveyard,” Schumer said during a press conference Thursday.
“The legislative graveyard is over. H.R. 8 will be on the floor of the Senate, and we will see where everybody stands. No more hopes and prayers, thoughts and prayers. A vote is what we need, a vote, not thoughts and prayers,” he added.
Schumer’s comment about no more “thoughts and prayers” was clearly a sleight to Christians.
Essentially, Democrats want background checks, which would require identification and other information by the buyer, even though the right to have a gun is in the U.S. Constitution.
After Schumer made these remarks, Democrats passed a House bill that made it harder for law-abiding citizens to defend their families with firearms.
The Democrat-led House passed a gun control bill to expand background checks with a vote of 227-203.
Eight Republican lawmakers voted with the Democrats to pass the “Background Checks Act,” which prohibits private firearms transfers without having a background check.
