Re: ever taken a greyhound bus across country{USA}? looking for advice
I took a bus across Saudi Arabia with a friend. During the night at a check point along the Iraqi border, a few police officers checked the bus manifest and started yelling my name______ American. I didn't answer because I didn't want to leave the bus, and nobody pointed at me or gave me away. So, the police just left. BTW, I am female.
If I can do that, you can travel in your own country.

Re: ever taken a greyhound bus across country{USA}? looking for advice
In the late 90s, I took a Greyhound from L.A. to Norfolk, VA. My leave was coming to an end so I needed to get back quick. The only problem was I had Strep Throat. I was young and worried about getting back before my leave was up. I probably infected everyone who got on and off the bus across the entire country highly contagious. So basically you have to watch out for people like me. Obviously I wouldn’t be caught dead on a bus today, and it sure felt like death.

Here's the secret: to be human is to suffer and part of suffering is self-doubt. And so there is a high chance if you are a sensitive Christian, those folks will pour their hearts out in excruciating detail. Wives think their husbands are cheating on them. Soldiers think their girlfriends have been sleeping with the soldier's best friend. Parents are scared about their adult kid's future. Everybody has money problems. People admit to affairs, drug addictions, porn use, gambling debts, alcoholism, etc.

All of that comes up minutes after someone finds out you are a Christian as they are hoping you have answers. They are scared.

The difference between those who claim to be spiritual and an authentic Christian is the latter actually care and try to help the suffering. The former are honestly liars and selfish.

theres probably a room somewhere with hitler and gaddafi getting a pineapple shoved in their orfices, and another room reserved for michael awuino who is a treacherous philanderer and the high priest of the temple of set... so he is evil in other words.

Once took a greyhound bus from NJ to North Carolina. Never again! Not only did it take twice as long as it should have by car, but a woman with a crying baby was on the bus. The baby cried THE ENTIRE TIME. It was a slow motion nightmare.

A fake who claims to be spiritual "Quit yer griping, Man. Close yer yap. I paid to ride this bus to sleep."

Authentic Christian sits near the smelly unkept person and is kind to them and shares their food and water. The person starts telling their story, and even though exhausted beyond all measure, patiently listens. "I'm listening, Brother."

Re: ever taken a greyhound bus across country{USA}? looking for advice
I travelled on Greyhound multiple times during the late 2000's, the longest being Texas to Kansas. That "one day" trip was somehow 2-3 days after the bus broke down in Oklahoma City. My dumbass work black and yellow air jordans and was almost jumped outside the station. (They gave us meal vouchers for a crappy restaurant nextdoor, so I ventured outside) Most trips aren't bad.. just boring

I will say there are some life lessons to be learned from GH, but despite bad experiences, in 2019, I needed a one way trip to a small town ~3-4 hours away to help a friend move. I showed up to the bus station with a "premium" ticket to have first pick at seats, and was literally bullied to the back of the line by passengers, as well as the driver. I walked to the ticket counter and requested a refund, they pushed back at first but finally refunded my ticket after I told them there was no way in Hell i was getting on that bus, and was about to just walk out the door.

I will never try to ride GH again after that last experience -

The driver couldn't have given a shit less about looking at my ticket/or me. Told me to go to the back of the line or ticket services. So many people muttered names and spit in my direction as I walked to the back of the line for holding up the line. I've honestly never felt so unwanted or disrespected as a customer so I just walked away and will never look back.. place has somehow gone to MORE shit than it ever was before

Was drinking with an acquaintance in a Tijuana bar in '77, when the dude couldn't pay the bill. He didn't speak Spanish and he was the one who invited me in there, so I told the cops in Spanish this, and that my bus was leaving for Mexico City in 20 minutes. They all smiled and wished me a nice trip. I had a seat next to a little girl about 7 or 8 years of age, her mum sitting in another row with someone. The trip took 2 days. Spent two days drawing pictures for the little Mexican girl.

Ha, once. Me and my buddy, we were 16 at the time, took a Greyhound to Colorado to visit his aunt. We stopped in Denver first, and stayed at a Embassy Suites for a couple of nights. Anyway, we got shitfaced on the way there, and started chatting with this dude who was a cop from NYC. He was drinking wild turkey and was fucked up too. All kinds of stories.

I remember that and the smell. It has a certain smell that is not good, especially when you are fucked up.

I don't drink anymore, not because of that.

Be prepared to only get 30 min of sleep at a time as the driver gets on the intercom every 30. This makes it also more dangerous to miss your bus switches if you get so tired you actually sleep through some.

Dont go outside at night in big city bus stations. Learned my lesson in LA at midnight.

Sometimes they empty your pockets between buses. Carry anything like a swiss army knife in your bags or they will confiscate it.

When I didn’t pass basic training, the US Army put me on a bus from Ft. Leonard Wood to the Denver International Airport. It was a very nice ride. I have no advice for you.
