Another co-discoverer is Dave Tholen who I am familiar with from the old days back on Usenet sci.astro
His image of comet Hale-Bopp was stolen and used to fake the "UFO behind the comet" by Courtney Brown and Art Bell.
In classic kook fashion they, the hoax perpetrators and thieves, accused Dave of being the one who manipulated his image to remove the UFO.

I know you can understand the outrage since you have been there with the sleazy, lying kooks.
It also seemed to really affect Tholen since it was fairly apparent that sci.astro was getting posts from the Heaven's Gate cult about Hale-Bopp and that image at the time. Their suicide seemed to really upset Dave on a personal level.
He was also a very active opponent of Nancy Lieder and her Planet X/Nibiru delusion/hoax as were a number of us - That's how I ended up at GLP in Nov., 2002... from Ninny's postings on sci.astro and her mention of this font of all kookiness.

It's tough to find anything of value in AC posts. Honestly I don't care about the false accusations of CGI, but when you assholes keep switching IPs to post pictures of anal prolapses and shit I just have to shut it down. I can't tend to the scope and clean up after your messes at the same time. And honestly, very little of value is lost by blocking it. It causes some of you to rage out and post callout threads that get you banned as well, but that just goes to show you had nothing of value to offer in the first place.

If you think my streams are boring, you're entitled to that opinion. I don't have a problem with that, my streams aren't for you. Lots of people enjoyed it last night and we had a chill time watching this asteroid sail by earth.
