Just an FYI, Mauritius has become very popular for hedge funds. I'm not sure why exactly - probably tax and privacy laws - but I have seen several funds in the last few months based there.

In short, it might be foreign money, but you can't tell. And it's definitely not sourced from Mauritius. It's likely Middle East, Chinese, and Russian money laundering.

US real estate is perfect for money laundering as there are no KYC laws. Anything else in the US has KYC laws that are problematic for international criminals, but real estate carved out an exmeption. Chinese criminal can purchase real estate, hold it for a few years, resell it and have clean dollars in a US bank account.

They target whole neighborhoods. This is how Chinese developers and "investors" came to Vancouver and bought up the farms and neighborhoods in Richmond, or working class neighborhoods like North Burnaby and Metrotown. They targeted whole blocks and as they took over they forced the property taxes and utilities up and out of reach of the homeowner, often elderly empty nesters. Anyone who remembers Vancouver before expo 86 knows what I am talking about. That's when Li Kaching and Chinese money (launderers) were welcomed by then mayor of Vancouver and later Premier of British Columbia. You want to see where your city is heading? Look at Vancouver. The Chinese play the long game, and while they were playing hard we were wasting our attention on frivolities and taking our freedoms for granted.

Interesting. I know a few folks who have put their places up for sale recently. Almost every one of them have sold within 4 to 6 hours after being placed on the market and at least half of them got offers from 10 to 20% over asking price.

Realtors have told them that the buyers are from the Northeast area, New York and Pennsylvania to be exact.

That depends. Some areas are absolute sellers markets.

I troll these callers mercilessly (pretending to be an interested tard in their shit, then ask them to speak up because I am hard of hearing or I simply don't understand). I rarely get a call from anyone I don't know these days. When I do, they will usually hang up after 1 min of trolling.

They are greedy, we didn't even want much more from their offer, just a little extra to put in our pocket and I think we only wanted 20-30,000 more. They still could have made a big profit.

I think many of them have more money than brains...A nice Chinese couple bought the house next-door to remodel and live in...The previous owner went into a nursing home and they overpaid him...Then they bought electricity from me, at their predetermined rate of $200.00/month...

I make my own power with solar, which is obvious with all the panels on my roof...From what I can tell they didn't use much...A few lights, power tools, and the pumps to keep the basement dry...It took them almost 6 months to get their utility power hooked up...

I'm looking forward to fresh Chinese vegetables in the near future!

Oh yeah, the house next door to me was bought by an Asian and he rents it out. He buys lots of property too because we saw another house the same color thought he must have bought the paint on sale. Sure enough, he owned that house too and a couple other in my neighborhood. He also owns a liquor store but lives in the suburb right next to us so he's buying up lots of property but lives close by. His non English speaking mom works at the liquor store.

They ask me what's the lowest I would accept.

I ask them what's the highest they're willing to pay.

That's usually the end of the conversation.

I’ve gotten these calls constantly for YEARS. Get this-they want to buy “my” apartment complex with hundreds of tenants. This is the location of a shithole efficiency apartment I rented for 12 months back in 2001 and apparently, according to them, I’m listed as “the owner.” Lord I wish I could sell it to them just to make the calls stop. I block each call/text as if it’s a game, hoping one day I’ll have blocked enough to have some peace for a week or so. It seems to come in surges. Don’t know why or how they’ve chosen my number, as it’s a number I’ve had since 2012, not 2001..they somehow get sold all your information, who knows how. I try to become zen about it and not get too angry anymore. It doesn’t help.

They make nice neighbors...I'm glad it's not blacks, though they likely couldn't afford to live here...You know the old saying "there goes the neighborhood" LOL

FannieMae said a few months back that they need the average house to be close to $1M to be solvent. You better believe they will be taking steps this year to jump those prices up. My financial advisor said if we ever wanted to buy a 2nd home or investment property, we should do it soon because he expected home prices to double by the end of this year.

I got a super weird story. So my family since the 1940’s have owned houses on this one particular suburban-country road in Ohio. It’s not a very long road, only stretches about 2-3 miles. Each house on the road has on average between 1-5 acres. So you can look outside and see your neighbor but if they have a party, you can’t hear them and it’s no bother to anyone. So on this road, our family used to own 4 but now we own 3 homes with large wooded property in back of them. This road is a largely undeveloped woodsy type area and also very swampy. If you go for a little hike, the wooded areas in back butt up against a major highway.

About ten years ago we started noticing this middle aged southern Chinese couple walking up and down the road each day. They had deep tans and wore the straw hats and dated raggedy clothing. They always looked dirty and unkempt.
We noticed they were foraging in people’s yards and in the wooded areas for food/plants/leaves/berries. This road is abundant with wild raspberries. Everyone on the street was put off by this activity because they did not appear to be living anywhere.
When I go to visit my mom, I often see them walking along the side of the road (no sidewalks here) with the wife walking directly behind the husband and swatting at him angrily with a reed to get him to walk faster! No one knew for the longest time where they came from or where they were headed.

One day my brother was out exploring the wooded area of his property and the adjacent wooded lot when he came upon their “camp.” They were apparently living out of a tent in the woods next to the highway. Now mind you this is bitter brutal northern Ohio winters where nothing really survives outside in a tent all winter long. It’s not safe and people don’t normally do that. Word started getting around the neighborhood and it came out that while in China, someone had sold them this property in the woods, site unseen, with no road or driveway access, no water or power or gas hookups, not knowing what they were getting into. So when they got here, they apparently just had to cut through other people’s yards to get to their property where they setup a makeshift tent/hovel and cooked food over a campfire! They lived that way for years before finally getting some sort of trailer back there.
Nowadays when I drive down the street my family just goes, “there’s the chinamen” and we drive by and wave, thinking it’s just normal to have Chinese people foraging for food in their ditch out front?! Also noticed even more moving in down the road-a small old family farm was bought out by a Chinese group of farmers who grow food for their restaurants. We see them there all day in the summers.

you are very lucky you don't live next door to renters. Renters in houses are the worst acting like fools throwing parties all the time, closest they will ever come to owning a home. We don't have any white renters in our neighborhood.
