Or adolescent ones that need instruction.... or cats...cats often kill simply for fun.

When my dad found out I had been killing for sport, he told me, if you are not going to eat it or use it's carcass in any fashion or manner, don't kill it. Only take animals that you plan to eat or use, or that are causing harm or destruction to you or others property in some manner, or have become a threat in some way.

That being said, I would take a job culling out of control animal populations like rat, cat, snakes or other such animals and it wouldn't bother me to be paid to do it. I would even participate without pay as a form of charitable community service.

I certainly don't condone what was done with the North American Bison.

The Bison use to be a mighty herd of beasts upon America's continent. What happened to them, makes me heart sick. That being said, I have purchase, shot and killed a bison while it stood in a fenced enclosure. I did it solely for food. I butchered it, processed it, froze it and ate it.

Life isn't always pretty, and death is a part of it.
