They wanted homeless and drug dealers and gangs out if there, and help young couples who wanted to move there. So back then, a savvy investor did most of the work, and then naive but hard working people might be able to get a property, but might also have terrible neighbors or at least suspicious ones. You got to either lay low or be super friendly as be sincere. They want some moral Christian people not ruffians. |

My head is here all the time these days of strife. I used to live off grid on 40 acres, the only thing I missed was a toaster, but cast iron pans work fine! I was never more at peace in that cottage, growing all my food, hearing the voice of my heart regularly. I have had the grace and luck to live in dream houses most my life, but that simple way was the happiest I have ever been, need to go back. |

I remember an old man telling me how folks got rid of squatters one time. There was an old abandoned building on some land and a ragtag group of folks moved in. The guy who owned the property got his work crew together and watched and waited for the folks to all go off to town. While the squatters were gone the owner and his crew took all the squatter's possessions and sat them off to the side (so as not to be charged with destroying the squatter's "property") and then proceeded to use bulldozers and other machinery at his disposal to completely tear down and remove all signs a building was ever there. I wonder how surprised the squatters were when they got back! |

Are there states with many abandoned properties? Sure. Work with them as sometimes they would rather a dependable hard working moral person come in, better a family, and then that is one less abandoned farm they have have to worry about. Rural teenagers get drunk and high in those places as well as use them for places to make out. They sure hate that. This means all the locals know if that troubled property and so will be suspicious of your intentions. While working on it, you will have to chase teens out. |
