Generally the giveaway is the mouth region. The syllables looks slightly “puppeted” and contrived by the lips. This one is better than most, but often the giveaway with Deep Fakes is a glitchiness around the mouth region when speaking that isn’t entirely natural.

Within a few months they'll be past that.

These algorithms improve dramatically each iteration, as can be seen in the video in the op.

Its scary that they can fake everything these days, so we can never be sure. Was it a real person in this video? Did he actually say this? Was he there? Did he do this eg a murder.

Actually, it's the person's real hair who's playing Tom Cruise. Look online at pictures of Tom Cruise and you'll see his part is different. With that said, it's still very impressive.
