There was another GLP thread last night that included posts from people claiming that a new US president never does a SOTU speech at the start of his first year in the White House. Technically, he doesn't. The first speech before Congress is known as an "address" by a President at the Capitol. President Trump, as one example, went before Congress in February 2017, not long after winning in November 2016. But even first-term presidents have a tradition of appearing before Congress not long after their election. Xiden, of course, has Covid-19 and social distancing affecting any appearance he makes at the Capitol. He should also give his speech at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. After all, he is PCC China's bag man. Moreover, he needs to learn Mandarin Chinese too. |
