There's this tiny spark of hope hanging by a thread in a deep recess in my heart that this still will mutate down to a more benign version.

Praying for this every day. So glad to have all of you posting and sharing parts of your lives, thank you all.

Not interested in any hater shit.

As you all know, I have been double vaxxed. Was given the booster today (scheduled before this Omicron thing became a thing). Will tell you if I suffer any ill efects.

Almost decided not to disclose the booster but thought you all might find this micro-sliver of info interesting:

The man who gave my injection said that appointments are booking far out for boosters and initial vax jabs. This happened as soon as omicron hit the news. People are very concerned by this indicator.

I would suggest getting ahead of any panic, and topping off any preps that need topping. If this goes the direction many think, the herd will panic, and with our already stressed supply chains --- well, there goes the toilet paper again tounge

ETA: Fortunately for GLP, I have ample coffee preps.

No hate here, LJS. You do what's right for you and to hell with anyone who gives you grief for it. For all the whining from the anti-mask/anti-vax crowd about their freedoms, they sure don't like it when other people exercise *their* freedoms to wear a mask or get the vaccine.

Screw 'em. Let natural selection take its course.

I hope you don't suffer any side effects. Out of curiosity, may I ask which booster you decided to get?

Edit: Nevermind. Already answered.

RW, we should have asked u a year ago. how bad do u think things have to b before specialists that run the grid systems would walk off their jobs? or how many sick would start showing signs?
 Quoting: JAZZz50

It's a dangerous industry anyways, I don't really see people walking of the job because of COVID.

Then again, a client of mine had 50% of their boilerhouse staff walk off the job due the vaccine mandate a few weeks ago.

The people who actually run the equipment tend to be in the "It's just the flu" type of mindframe.

I think if things got so bad they started not showing up, there would be bigger problems than power and water and sewer.

This is gonna sound really bad, but you know what? That's what everyone lived in when Mr. TB was TSGT. TB. in Afghanistan.

At least they had a roof, a floor and 4 walls. Is BA so much better than anyone in the military? The Americans weren't the only ones living like that either and they were glad that it wasn't in tents.

And I’m guessing the WHO would like to define that “common binding”.
Binding..interesting word choice.

NOW - WHO's Tedros claims "the time has come for countries to agree on a common binding approach to a common threat" amid #Omicron variant.

I am having a very hard time believing that this is a milder, less serious variant, based on the reactions of so many world leaders. The US made a major news announcement over the Thanksgiving weekend ... when does that ever happen?

I'm thinking this one's extra evil in some way, though who knows how that might show up.
Looks like freedom but it feels like death. It's something in between I guess... it's closing time.

I’m suspect too.

At a minimum I’d have to imagine another hit to the supply chain knocking it down a couple more notches.

Then there’s the overload on health and utility services.

India is on the hunt..

Samples of all individuals testing positive for Covid-19, either at airports under home isolation or during random sampling, will also be sent for Whole Genomic Sequencing at identified INSACOG network laboratories to determine the presence of SARS-CoV-2 variants (including Omicron).

Wait a minute..it was only “2 weeks” a day ago. Now we have a range of 2-6 weeks?

The chief executive of Moderna, Stephane Bancel, said data on the efficacy of the vaccine against the newest variant could be available within two to six weeks but that it will be months before Omicron-specific jabs can be shipped.

Speaking in a CNBC interview reported by Reuters, Bancel added that this variant is understood to be highly infectious, but that current measures that countries are taking will be effective in slowing down its spread.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been urged to introduce far tougher travel restrictions on travellers from abroad...

Nicola Sturgeon, the first minister of Scotland, and Mark Drakeford, the Welsh first minister, also urged Johnson to host an urgent meeting of Cobra..

Sturgeon said she and Drakeford believed there was a clear need to increase quarantine times and precautionary testing for new arrivals..

...Sturgeon said all travellers from abroad should quarantine for eight days and undergo a PCR test on the eighth day, as well as on day two, as is already required.

I guess just trying to slow it down.
By the sounds of what we’re dealing with, I don’t think it’s going to help much.

Poland announces restrictions
The Polish government has announced the following restrictions to come into force between 1 and 17 December:

- Restaurants and bars to be reduced to 50% capacity
- Weddings limited to 100 vaccinated people, no limits on those with jabs
14-day quarantine for all those travelling from outside the EU’s Schengen zone
- Longer quarantine for those returning from some African countries
