I mean..why not, what could possibly go wrong?

Germany: Dozens take illegal mystery COVID vaccine before police shut it down

German police had to close down an unauthorized event billing itself as a vaccination center on Saturday after a doctor began administering COVID-19 vaccine shots he had invented himself, German media reported.
The jab, which was developed without any official recognition..

Police said that some 50 individuals appeared to have received the mystery shot, while over 200 more people were in line..

Thanks for responses-
speaking of glitter vectors-
this guy also built a squirrel maze in the middle of the pandemic, if memory serves. . .

He also is starting some kind of engineering class, fyi
as to my original question-praying that horse paste continues to work, at least for a while longer. . . .
eta
looking at his videos, little man might enjoy some of them as science/steam/engineering stuff-maybe when he's a bit older-just a thought. . .

Stupid question?

Why didn't we close all borders worldwide at the beginning of the pandemic?

If they do that, then the political pressure to respond militarily against China will be immense. Admitting it's a bioweapon will almost certainly result in war.

I'm a little confused here. I read earlier today that this variant was already known in July. Is that right? If so, why are "they" doing the breaking news thing?
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

well cpl reasons. 1> too much news on young ppl dying from vax. gets it out os news by screaming
2> vax failures. gota blame somethhing.
3> too many protests. inject more fear. lockdowns were coming in EU anyhow before this broke news.

4> nobody wants boosters.

while everyone watches the right hand, what is the left doing? govern screaming but we shall see what the actions say soon.
 Quoting: JAZZz50

I have a theory on what the left hand is up to, but I'm not ready to post it yet and probably not on this thread. It's way OT. I'm watching and so is Riff. If/when things happen, it's all going to happen at once, I think.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

Yep. If it happens, it will be overwhelming. I hope I'm wrong.

That is the point. People want to go where they want and when they want. Millions of people just want to do what they were used to do for such a long time.

So what if they lose that freedom for a while for own their protection? (is it?)

Pity I am only correct in the abstract while I was thinking quite concrete.

I isolated myself almost completely. So, it is possible!
 Quoting: sbt

That's the thing... it's not "for a while" at this point. It's been two years.

And while you have isolated yourself, I have operated in a range equivalent to the northernmost point of Germany to the southernmost point of France... and I can't isolate if you want society to operate. And there are many many more like me.

All it takes is one... cough cough.
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

However, comma, you have been taking as many precautions as you possibly can to protect yourself. Of the many many more like you, you are probably in the minority.

Guys, I am now officially worried. I just found out last night that my oldest and youngest grands have gotten the shot. My granddaughter was SO proud and excited to tell me about it and I froze. I couldn't say anything. She's only 9. My daughter told me that they talked to an old family friend of her husband's that was involved with the trials. He told them it was completely safe. I still can't process it.

How can 2 people be SO smart, SO educated and be SO blind? Or am I the one that's been wrong? I'm floundering on this. I have to move a ton of furniture around the house today and tomorrow. We're having a new bed delivered on Tuesday, but I'll be checking in when I need a break.

Oh yeah. OT. We actually got snow last night and the ground is covered. More supposed to fall later today. Not a lot, just messy.

Regarding what went wrong at the beginning of the pandemic and what should or should not have been done, the United States has had in place for decades what it calls the "National Response Framework" - [link to www.ready.gov (secure)]

This is a guideline prepared in advance detailing how the government and private sector would respond in the event a national or global catastrophe.

The companion document to the NRF is the National Planning Scenarios - [link to info.publicintelligence.net (secure)]

While the first document is generalized, the second one goes into greater detail on the 15 most likely disasters to affect the United States. Scenario Number 3 is Biological Disease Outbreak, initially geared more towards pandemic influenza, but nevertheless would have been applicable back in January/February of 2020.

Again, we have had both of these in place for decades, and they are updated regularly to take into account new intelligence and technology.

So what happened when the pandemic started? The US government threw those playbooks out the window and improvised as they went along. Most of that improvisation was a huge denial and disinformation campaign.

I recognized very early in 2020 that the NRF was not being implemented as it should have been. Two years later, and it still hasn't been implemented, not that it would make any difference if it was. The people no longer trust the government, the media, the scientists, or each other. The damage to the national psyche is extensive and probably permanent.

So what can the average citizen do now that a proper government response is clearly not coming? The most important thing to know at this stage is that we have moved beyond risk avoidance; that ship sailed two years ago. We are now into risk management, which means assessing everything you do and acknowledging the risks inherent with your actions so you can mitigate - not eliminate - your exposure.

When dealing with hazard exposure, there are five methods of controlling those hazards and the risks associated with them. In this specific instance, the hazard is the virus and the risk is infection.

1: Eliminate the hazard. Clearly not an option here at the personal level.

2: Substitute the hazard. Again, not an option with a biological pathogen.

3: Engineering controls. Essentially, establishing level 4 biological hazard protocols to isolate the hazard from people. Possible, but not at the personal level due to the cost, training, education, and logistics required to do it right. Vaccines are also an engineering control, but with a continuously evolving hazard, the efficacy of vaccines still remains questionable.

4: Administrative controls. This is the establishment of policies and protocols designed to minimize exposure to the hazard. But people generally refuse to abide by policies and protocols. I've seen the exact same reaction in the safety and security field. Implement a policy designed to protect employees from being injured. The employees - for various reasons - basically say "fuck this shit" and ignore the policy, putting themselves needlessly at higher risk of injury. The general public is no different. In the case of this pandemic, administrative controls are lockdowns and restrictions designed to prevent or reduce the spread of the virus. We've all seen how effective those have been.

5: Personal Protective Equipment. The absolute last resort and last line of defense against a known hazard. In this case, masks and respirators are the primary PPE. But we can't convince people to do that because of freedumbs.

So, there you have it. All the reasons why a non-sentient strand of RNA has been able to bring the most educated and technologically advanced civilization this planet has ever seen to its knees. With every passing day, I become more and more convinced that the Terminator was right: It is in our nature to destroy ourselves.

hugs and :prayers:

Your daughter is grown and has to make her own decisions. And in terms of statistics… it is reasonably safe.

It sucks to watch all the proud parents vaccinating their kids. Because they are under the impression this will make it all better.

Every six months they fall for a new scheme that convinces them life is going back to normal. The ultimate Frog Pot. (Jazzz did good on this point)

It is endemic. It is done. Everyone needs to decide how much they want to invest in getting to the other side. Technically, they should have 2 years ago, but life is shiny and fun … it is not easy to walk away from.

I have seen enough heart issues in my region to avoid the virus and vaccine. Yeah, I will be under a good book or crafting with little man.

TB: My personal opinion, based on personal observations. I admit I could be completely wrong. The statement that it is "completely safe" should never be used by medical personnel. There is always that small percentage of unknown which can result in an unforeseen adverse result.

That being said, I firmly believe the non-mRNA vaccines produce less risk to an individual than becoming infected with the virus. The jury on the mRNA vaccines is still out for me. Earlier attempts to produce mRNA vaccines for other pathogens - rabies, for example - failed due to unsafe side effects on test subjects, the same side effects we're hearing about now with the mRNA Covid vaccines. That's why I will stick with the less effective viral-vector technology. It may only be 75% effective instead of 90% effective, but I'm willing to gamble on that 15%.

For what it's worth.

I am wondering if I am the only one who can see what I posted in the middle of the night about invermectin?
Unless I missed someone responding, no one posted anything.
Maybe I wasn't clear-
South Africa and the other African countries were supposed to have been spared because of the widespread use of the horse paste.
This new variant apparently can overcome the magic gel?
Why I posted the few articles I could find about invermectin and South Africa.
If invermectin doesn't work anymore against this variant, what will? Anyone seen anything? I am trying to keep up with the Twitt feed that the original thread has become, and from what I've seen, there isn't another antedote-yet.
Friends of mine, what say you?

Earlier attempts to produce mRNA vaccines for other pathogens - rabies, for example - failed due to unsafe side effects on test subjects, the same side effects we're hearing about now with the mRNA Covid vaccines. That's why I will stick with the less effective viral-vector technology. It may only be 75% effective instead of 90% effective, but I'm willing to gamble on that 15%.

For what it's worth.

Thanks, Riff. I didn't think to ask what shot the kids got. I was that stunned. I shouldn't have been. I knew they would get them, I just didn't think it would happen so quickly.

I'm almost positive that they did not get the J and J.

I still worry a bit about one of my daily shots. It was developed using mRNA tech, but it has been used for almost 20 years. It seems to be safe, but who really knows? I tried to look into it and never found much, just the printout that comes with the prescription. Before anyone asks, it's Lantus. It's a delay release type of insulin.

More folks were infected than has been realized….

It’s the part that no public official wants to touch. Bury that down deep because we were baked already.

How long do y'all think it'll be before Christmas gets cancelled again? Kind of a rhetorical question.

Tough question.
My best guess.
In order to institute any real lockdown.
The people need to demand it.
They have to see death and system failures on a scale not seen.
We ain’t there yet.

Ummmm..pretty sure they didn’t “find it” until they were told what to look for..
Western world is probably feeling pretty stupid right now.
