General Motors adding more downtime as chip shortage drags on

Thursday they announced the Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant will add an additional week on downtime the week of Sept. 27, with production expected to resume Oct. 4. That plant, which builds the Chevrolet Traverse and the Buick Enclave, has been down since July 19.

You know, I've been wondering if we shouldn't just try to sell the Nitro for parts. I hate to do that. Pretty sure it just needs a new sensor...that we can't get. I hate just leaving it sit in the driveway. I'd rather get it fixed.

It could end up like my gramma's old organ. It had vacuum tubes. She got more for it than she paid when she traded it in for a newer one.

Have you tried junk yards to see if you can find a sensor? Or eBay?

TB, I had problems with what I'll call the master window/lock switch on my car. Dealer's estimate was "somewhere between $450-$500 for parts and labor".

I bought the part, used but guaranteed, off ebay along with a little tool kit that's used to help "pop off" the plastic fasteners that hold the door panel on.

About an hour and a half of my time, job done. Part cost $50, tool kit was $19. Total savings was around $400.

Hint: if I can do it, anyone can do it.

First findings from world’s largest study on long Covid in children
2 September 2021

They found that, when surveyed at an average of 15 weeks after their test, 14% more young people in the test positive group had three or more symptoms of ill health, including unusual tiredness and headaches, than those in the test negative group, while 7% (one in 14) more had five or more symptoms.

Infectious SARS-CoV-2 in Exhaled Aerosols and Efficacy of Masks During Early Mild Infection

SARS-CoV-2 is evolving toward more efficient aerosol generation and loose-fitting masks provide significant but only modest source control. Therefore, until vaccination rates are very high, continued layered controls and tight-fitting masks and respirators will be necessary.

Guys, I really appreciate the car advice. There a bunch of reasons we won't try to fix it ourselves. The biggest 2 are lack of proper tools and the second is to work on the engine, the entire dash has to be taken out and you almost need to be a contortionist to get to the spot. Been there, done that before, don't want to do it again. We can't tear it down in the driveway either. Leases are a pain in the rear sometimes.

Pretty soon, I'm going to get him to call the dealership and have them tow and take a look at it.

I have a friend who is married to a commercial pilot. Yesterday, she told me that his airline emailed all of the employees requiring the shot for everyone. He is preparing to challenge this. He has only been a few years retired from the military, so he still has a lot of contacts there. Today, she texted me this (identifying details removed):

"12 F-22 from "xxx's" former unit at (xx AF base) walked into their commander's office this morning, and refused the jab after they got a 4 a.m. text from their commander to get it or else. That's an entire squadron on code 3, meaning they have to stand down. It takes 3-4 years to train an F-22 pilot from start to finish to be combat ready. 15 bomber pilots quit, too. We already have readiness issues from mechanical to deployment."

We have all heard these stories going around. This is the first I have heard from someone actually connected to our military. What will be the result of this? I don't know. A part of me thinks that this is what this bogus administration wants and is just part of our engineered takedown. I texted my friend back saying that I hope this makes a positive difference.

Seems clear to me that this administration, not solely but in particular, has no understanding of the law of unintended consequences.

This being yet another example of how rapidly they can paint themselves into a corner.

Rule by edict rather than education; trying to use what they think is an unlimited power only to find out that in the end "the emperor really doesn't have any clothes", thinking of themselves as hammers and everyone else as but nails to be pounded, won't end well.
