We watched Texas Tech's game last week and it was packed out. Our high schools have just played their second games last night. I know the stands aren't full, but they're full enough. Our high school just went fully masked this week after being shut down last week. |

DEFCON 4 User ID: 52530071 United States 09/12/2021 09:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just finished throwing away expired items from our shelter. We're donating the rest to a food bank, then we'll restock at the new house with a better rotation system in place so stuff doesn't expire. Quoting: Riff-Raff We'll also be dumping a bunch of our stored water. Since the well system out there is connected to the backup generator, I won't stockpile as much water as I have been, but I will still keep some in reserve. According to our inspector, the place needs a new furnace, AC unit, and fireplace flue. That gives us some good negotiating power to purchase it for even less than we initially offered. Here's where I need some advice from savvy GLP-ers. We'll have the choice of putting in an electric furnace or propane furnace. We have a 500 gallon propane tank on the property that runs the backup generator and feeds the current furnace. I'd like to go all electric on the furnace so the propane can just be filled and sit there for power loss events, but I don't know if electric furnaces have gotten as efficient as gas furnaces yet and I don't want to kill our electric bill. Any advice on that? For comparison, of a sort, purposes I'll contrast electric as it applies to our air conditioning. I keep the a/c set at 74 for the most part, if we're in a 90+ situation for several days with high humidity I'll nudge it down a degree or two. Our electric bill for let's say October through April averages around $15-$25 per month. In the a/c months it's up to $250-$275 per month and could at times go a bit higher. Given that we heat a helluva lot more than we cool here in Wisconsin I would never even consider using electric heat if I wanted to avoid killer electric bills. And our price per kwh isn't horribly high. That was very helpful, thanks. If possible [I hear they are hard to find now], you might want to replace the 500 Gal tank with a 1,000 gal one. Then for backup heat, put in a wood stove. I like the Jotuls because they are small but put out a LOT of heat. That way you always have heat of some kind in at least part of the house. Ours is 3500 sq ft and the Jotul keeps it toasty in the winter and we live in the far northern part of the country so we get a lot of cold air and snow. [link to www.jotul.com (secure)] |

Where my husband works they have had a lot of positive cases. They are short staffed. Majority are vaccinated. Now, everyone, whether vaxxed or not, must wear masks and tested TWICE a week. Everyone. Family and friends spanning Pfizer and Moderna from first in January to first shot in May are getting infected. Ages range from early 30s to late 70s. There’s apparently no stopping. Suspect the vax may drop the severity for most a notch or so below what one would have otherwise. With the vax push being so hard. I’m trying to decide between tyranny and desperation. Maybe both. Either way, everyone seems to be losing their concern. We’ve moved from “we’re all in this together” to “as long as it’s not me”. I’m getting daily or every other day emails about bus driver shortage. Existing drivers disappeared. New ones can’t be trained because of Covid protocols. At least this is what they say. I'm sorry, Guythu. I'm afraid the way this has been handled, it's only going to get worse. There's no way I CAN take the shots. I have to start all over again with new specialists for heart and kidneys. I've got the heart appt. next month and waiting to hear back from the nephrologist. Neither of them had my referrals. I'm in early kidney failure again and it's putting pressure on my heart. The only good news I got today was my A1C is all the way down to 7.2. A couple of months ago, it was 13. None of this would've happened if our doc had listened to me 2 years ago. Oh well, such is life. The way things are right now, if I take the shots, I will die like the others that we've read about. It would be less painful to use one bullet, but I'm not that brave. I'm going to die, not today, but soon enough. It'll be sooner if I get the shots.
