Gibson makes awesome Guitars, but they suck at making Basses, 3xcept for the Thunderbird. I've owned and played a Fender Jazz Bass. I've owned at least two PJ style basses, a Peavey and a Yamaha. I currently own and play on an Ibanez SR250. My current amp is an Ampeg, though I really want a Gallien Kruger. I use a Markbass Compressore, a TC Electronics Corona Chorus, and a Boss DD3 digital delay and power these off a Voodoo Labs PP2+. |

My buddies fender custom shops/usa guitars are some of the sweetest and easiest playing guitars I ever played. My gibson sucks major balls and wont stay in tune plus sounds like shit. The only thing I like about my SG is the feel of the neck. |

My main electric is a Fender strat, fitted with vintage-sounding noise cancelling pickups from Mojotone. Super sweet guitar, and the pickups are a main part of it. Really pleasing tone, and NO HUM! My main acoustic is a Gibson SJ-200 "Super Jumbo". Really expensive guitar, but totally worth it! This is a true "no eq guitar", you just point a mic in its general direction and it sounds unbelievably good. |

User ID: 77718153 Canada 02/20/2021 03:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Typically? My Gretsch through my Fender Vaporizer. However, in the spirit of the question - when playing my Gibson, it's usually my SG into the Peavey EFX212. I like this SG because it has coil splitting, meaning I can get that Fender single coil sound the odd time I want it without actually having to pick up a Fender. Yeah, I'm a Gibson guy. In all honesty I have nothing against Fenders, they just aren't my thing, and I'm perfectly happy with Fender amps, although I really want a Vox to pair with the Gretsch - just a bit more versatility than the Vaporizer, and a LOT more clean headroom. ad ignorantiam - The assumption of a conclusion or fact based primarily on lack of evidence to the contrary. I have a late 50's J50 (last year of the slope shoulder) and it's beautiful, but a bit thin in the mids - my Epi Dove has a slightly better overall sound, although the J50 for fingerpad picking is great. I have a Les Paul / Melody Maker, I picked it up because the price was good and those soapbar P90's have a really interesting sound for certain applications. I do like the SG better, though. If you ever find a Woodsong, F series (I have the F400) they're hidden gems you wouldn't believe - comparable to a J45 but at less than a 3rd of the price. Found mine in a pawn shop, and it's my go-to acoustic. ad ignorantiam - The assumption of a conclusion or fact based primarily on lack of evidence to the contrary. Anonymous Guitarist User ID: 79838771 United States 02/20/2021 10:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've played both brands for 25 years. Both are very overpriced. Gibson in general seems to rely a lot more on better looking, quality woods and a more labor intensive building process that makes a lot of Fender guitars seem like something a high schooler would make in shop class. Not trying to demean Fender, I've gigged their guitars and basses for decades. Each has it's own sound, though in the electrified music era the pickups and amp are what you hear 99% of the time. The amplifier became an instrument itself in the 60's when it became commonplace to intentionally overdrive them for a different sound. In that situation a guitar made of plywood will sound about the same as a $10K customshop Gibson. |
