It gets cold enough the ice builds up in the pressure tanks of well systems and when the power returns the ice often times punctures the bladder in the tank and that in turn takes out the pressure switch and if the pump is getting old it can take it out to in a chain reaction .

I keep a kerosene heater in my well house just for that reason . My water lines are five feet down in sand and all of the above ground lines are heavily insulated and protected with heat tape I can keep going with a small generator .

All of my exterior faucets are frost free eight footers . I hate frozen lines .
