We are under a water ban now. All water from the tap must be boiled because of bacteria. | |

User ID: 80059579 United States 02/19/2021 08:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was just wondering how much water most people on GLP have stocked up? I have for about a week. Should probably have more than that. Quoting: ~Sloane~ I store around 100 gallons. 1 blue water barrel a few scepter water containers (around 7u gallons each). a few of those Reliance cubes, also around 7 gallons each. A few cases of water bottles a couple water cooler replacement water jugs. Never really added it up. Also I fill a few big stew pots at the onset. I installed one of those Reverse Osmosis 5 stage water filters at the sink. WHile they always have a disclaimer, I think it would protect against most nasties in the water. The nice thing also, is that it uses no electricity, unlike the fridge filtered water dispenser. I also bought all the equipment to "jet" a shallow water well if there is some long term disturbance and I think I need a well. BUt you do need water supply to jet the well. And of course I have at least 6 sub micron water filters Katyadyne, a few Sawyers, a Coleman and an old first need. And a bunch of iodine and bleach if needed to simply disinfect. Quoting: ~Newton's Own~ Thankfully we were ready for this and haven't been using tap water for 2 days. I have a berkey.. no problems. no boiling et all. We have a couple too. I'd still boil and not take any chances if I needed water. berkey filters all bacteria and viruses.. its been proven... by people with microscopes.. as to bacteria anyway... viruses don't show on them...but the filters are dense... and our stupid masks do NOTHING.. the filters ought to do something... as to viruses which are bigger than molecules of about anything. I also keep stored water .. unfiltered.. just leave the chlorine in the water... and that can be filtered should I need to use it... their special filters that get large molecules like Fluoride and arsenic compounds out certainly could filter the even larger viruses. I trust it more any day than boiling.. filltering it will get all sorts of crap out of it. |

How do you like your reverse osmosis system? I bought one a few months ago but have not installed it yet. I also bought a remineralizer to hook up to it. I'm thinking of also hooking up a reverse osmosis system to our fridge so the ice cubes taste better. I rarely use ice, but I like to have it for quests and my husband like it in the warmer months. |

Our water service has a couple of mains that froze up on them, so it will be a couple of days until they thaw out. Water rationing....but comfortable. "Rangers Lead The Way" |

I like the system. definitely cleans the heck out of the water. I mainly use it for coffee and glasses of drinking water. But sometimes drink from the fridge filtered water. Good idea to still have some minerals in your water. My fridge is on the other side of the kitchen, so it would be difficult to tie it into the RO water filter.
